Title: PROJECT TETRA

1
PROJECT TETRA
  • Game Proposal

2
Overview
  • Project Tetra is a multiplayer RPG with active,
    menu-based combat.
  • Players in Project Tetra work together to
    overcome obstacles and defeat enemies.
  • Combat in Project Tetra is fast-paced, with a
    variety of tactical options.
  • Players work together to complete a level or go
    head to head.

3
Concept
  • Tetra is a multiplayer game at its core. Players
start up the game, pick character classes, and
team up to take on the games enemies.
  • The project has a small scope, running the length
of a single level or dungeon containing multiple
    enemies and bosses.
  • Combat is triggered by certain events in the
    level, and all players participate
    simultaneously, performing actions with their
    character.
  • Players may combat their way through the games
dungeon or go head to head against other groups
    online.

4
  • Players move their characters through the
    environment separately
  • All players join combat when a battle is
    triggered
  • Players use their abilities to fight monsters
  • Players have the option to move, attack, cast
spells, use combo attacks or items in combat
  • Multiple characters may ready at once, choosing
    actions that are queued up.
  • Characters gain minor experience from combat.
  • Experience can be used to increase stats or level
up abilities, making them more potent.

5
Combat
  • Combat in Project Tetra is governed by the action
bar. Each character has an icon that moves along
the action bar in battle according to that
characters speed or agility stat. When a
players icon hits the ready state, they can
    choose actions.
  • Once a player has chosen actions, those actions
go into a queue, and are executed in sequence.
  • Therefore, no player has to wait for another
player to input their actions, and combat moves
    more quickly
  • Actions selected in combat cost Action Points
(AP). Some actions cost more than others. Some
characters may have more or less AP.

  • Character Classes
  • Project Tetra has between 4 and 6 character
    classes, all human or humanoid.
  • Classes share many animation and rigging details.
  • Classes differ in stats and abilities, as well as
    armament.
  • Each class has 3 skills that it has access to
during the game. These may be leveled up with
    experience points.

Creating Project Tetra
  • Project Tetra will require a minimum of the
    following content
  • 1 dungeon/level
  • 4 character classes, with models and animations
  • 4-8 basic monsters
  • 2-3 boss monsters
  • Doodads to place in the dungeon
  • Textures for these models
  • GUI/HUD for in and out of combat
  • Particle effects for attacks, skills and spells.

9
  • Additionally, Project Tetra will require the
    following non-content material
  • Network play for a minimum of 4 players, ideally
with support for 8 (for team vs. team combat)
  • Limited enemy AI, making use of the games battle
    system in combat.
  • Messaging between players, in and out of combat.
  • Some level of QA/Testing periodically to ensure
that classes and difficulty are balanced
  • The game engine, including combat and level
    exploration

10
Advantages to Project Tetra
  • Combat system is simple, and easy to balance
  • Game has a limited scope
  • Content is modular, easy to add on to
  • Concept is relatively fresh
  • Easy to include PvP combat
  • Game has wide scope, incorporating all elements
    of the game design process
  • Game would be fun to play
  • Lots of room for creativity

11
Conclusion
  • Project Tetra is the ideal project for the Game
    Devs Club to focus on.
  • It has a strong initial design, lots of room for
artistic creativity, and is modular, allowing for
flexibility late in the dev cycle.
  • Project Tetra likely to be a great piece to
showcase the talents and abilities of the Game
    Devs Club.
