  • course bristled paint brushes
  • paper to print on slightly larger than the
    plexiglas

  • to engender a fundamental love of the earth
  • to think more about how a landscape makes one
feel rather than what it looks like realistically

2
Process Day one On the plexiglas provided
students apply textural tempera paint with stiff
brushes or pieces of matte board to create a
gestural underpainting. Students should consider
the position of the horizon, the weather
conditions, the movement of the grass, trees,
clouds, etc. All of the ideas should be discussed
prior to beginning painting. The entire plexiglas
surface should be covered with the paint and
students need to work fast. Paper is applied to
the surface of the paint and the students are
instructed to rub their hand over the back of the
paper completely. The paper is removed diagonally
by peeling it back from the plexiglas. Students
are encouraged to make at least two textural
prints with different intentions. Day two The
instructor can review the concepts of the lesson
plan before students begin to apply watercolors
to the textural prints. Day three Divide the
students into small groups and lay out all of the
students work. Ask students to assemble
groupings of pictures that relate to each other.
Teacher can help in attaching the groups together
on a backing paper for display.
