Introduction
  • Archdeacon Cambridges School are planning to
    redevelop their swimming pool
  • A survey was carried out amongst its pupils
  • To seek the views of those who matter the
    users!
  • To seek attitudes to pool and possible
    improvements
  • To help fund raising ventures by demonstrating
    appropriate consultation has been conducted
  • Survey carried out July 2008
  • 103 respondents, aged 7-12 (ie. Years 3 8)
  • Mix of boys and girls (48 boys, 55 girls)
  • Questionnaire handed out via teachers

4
Attitudes to Current pool are poor - average
score is below 4 out of 10
  • Older children 11-12 and boys are more critical

5
Dislikes far outweigh likes overall the
changing rooms generate the most complaints, as
well as the cold and dirty pool

holes in wall people can see through, and its
very disturbing
6
Majority of children welcome the prospect of
improving the pool
  • Especially those aged 9-10

7
Improved hygiene seems to be the main driver,
either in the pool or the surrounding facilities
8
Their own suggested improvements tend to support
the prompted ideas
  • Highest no. of overall comments suggest improving
    the changing rooms, including toilets/showers
  • Though a warmer pool with a roof is also
    important
  • Ideally a larger/deeper pool is welcomed too

(cleaner 18, cover up holes 17, bigger 16,
separate cubicles 9)
9
Conclusions
  • The school pupils have clearly demonstrated that
they are not satisfied with the pool and its
    current facilities
  • Desired improvements focus on making the pool
warmer and cleaner, and improving the condition
    of the changing facilities
  • The intended plans to improve the pool appear to
align very well with their wishes ie.
  • new changing rooms and toilets. showers
  • retractable roof
  • new pool filtration and water heating
  • inclusion of a large poolside area
