• A Fourfold Look

When eating the Lords Supper

• We should look upward.
• That is, we should direct our attention to
  heaven, where Christ, who instituted it, is
  partaking of it with us.

1 Corinthians 1123

• For I received from the Lord that which I also
  delivered to you that the Lord Jesus on the same
  night in which He was betrayed took bread and
  when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
  "Take, eat this is My body which is broken for
  you do this in remembrance of Me."

• "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit
  of the vine from now on until that day when I
  drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."

• "Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink
  of the fruit of the vine until that day when I

  enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is
  willing, but the flesh is weak."

  for their eyes were heavy and they did not know
  what to answer Him. Then He came the third time
  and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and
  resting? It is enough! The hour has come behold,
  the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands
  of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My
  betrayer is at hand."

  "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
  And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's

  "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away
  from Me nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be
  done."

• We should look backward.
• We should also look back to the mental anguish He
  bore in the garden and on the cross.
• Finally, we should look back at the awful price
  that was paid for the sins of the world,
  including yours and mine.

  partiality judges according to each one's work,
  conduct yourselves throughout the time of your
  stay here in fear knowing that you were not
  redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or
  gold, from your aimless conduct received by

  blemish and without spot.

• the return of Jesus Christ
• the resurrection unto life
• receiving our inheritance
• being forever with the Lord

• We should look inward, examining self, to make
  sure we are looking upward, backward and forward.

1 Corinthians 1127-29

• Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this
  cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be
  guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let
  a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the
  bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and
  drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks
  judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's
  body.
