Some facts in ubiquitous imaging
  • Two major use models while our customers get in
    the imaging world.

to present idea with documents right now, in this
place
If you just want to see, you would see your
mobile device
to present idea with documents to other place,
but you are here
If you were there, you would share your idea by
yourself

PUCC bridges Epsons dreams
  • Epson products to bridge other companies
    products
  • Through collaborating with many companies,
  • To enable mobile/ubiquitous service in anywhere
    at any time
  • As a leap frog framework to realize users vision

11
Achievements
12
CES 2008, Jetro booth
  • EMP-1715 demos
  • EPSON presented a mobile phone driven slide-show
use case, collaborating with NTT DoCoMo.
  • EPSON also showed PM-T990 UPnP Network printer,
    in 2007.
  • These facts mean that we at EPSON are ready for
ubiquitous market, but few missing pieces are
PUCC gateways or any counter pair devices.

EMP-1715
PM-T990
13
Achievements in CES 2008
  • In Jetro booth, EPSON got several important
insights for future market in mobile environments.

EPSON has been urged to improve unified printer
control language ESC/P-R, so that any Information
Appliance can print without printer drivers
EPSON learned users expectation and experience in
Mobile Phone Printing and Projection to enable
their business to free from time and location
14
Influence from CES 2008
  • As the chair man of the MPV Printing WG, F.N.
reported CES 2008 Jetro/PUCC activity to the
    OSTA. http//www.osta.org/
  • OSTA/MPV is considered that photo asset archiving
and meta-date adding for mobile contents would
provide productive asset management capability in
    ubiquitous environments.

Usability is a key for future
  • In any mobile use case,
  • Users need to get connected to the destination,
nonetheless they dont know IP address nor URL of
    the destination.
  • Any well matured application like a train
ticketing would not ask users to write out an URL
    of the train company.
  • But how do you get connected from the target
device in an unfamiliar city ?

36
Capturing in a city
IP Address marking
Behind the application, PUCC protocols make a
bridging connection between different devices
37
EPSON expects
  • Key drivers to enlarge PUCC application would be

Counter devices for each PUCC use case
Widely known branding
Progressing of each activities
