Scanning with EPSON SCAN software and the Epson
4490 scanner
DO NOT USE ACROBAT PRO TO SCAN! To find the
Epson Scan application click anywhere on the
desktop. Under the GO menu, select APPLICATIONS.
Open the EPSON SCAN application.
  • Make sure the MODE is set to OFFICE or
    PROFESSIONAL MODE.
  • SCANNING PDF FILES
  • IMAGE TYPE for plain text should be BLACK
    WHITE. If scanning text with photo images select
    GRAYSCALE or RGB, if color. To keep the file size
    manageable you might want to do this only on
    those pages containing photos. You can later use
    Acrobat Pro to combine the separate pages into
    one document.
  • To scan multiple pages select ADF under DOCUMENT
    SOURCE. Place the pages headfirst and right side
    up onto the ADF feeder tray. Make sure there are
    no pages on the scanner bed.
  • For only one page select DOCUMENT TABLE under
    DOCUMENT SOURCE and lay the page down on the
    scanner bed.
  • Set Resolution at 300dpi.
  • Click the SCAN button.
  • The FILE SAVE SETTINGS window will appear. Here
    is where you will name the file, select its
    format and set a location. You cannot save files
    to the local drive. Save to your private server
    instead. Click OK.
  • If youre scanning double-sided pages be sure to
    flip the pages over in the ADF tray. A window
    will come up after the 1st side is done scanning,
    prompting you to select one of two radio buttons.
    Be sure to select Back ofpage 3, 4, 5, etc.
  • SCANNING IMAGE FILES
  • IMAGE TYPE should be either COLOR or GRAYSCALE
  • (scanning images in BW is not recommended).
  • Select DOCUMENT TABLE.
  • Set resolution at 200-300 dpi.
  • Click PREVIEW. Select the area to be scanned.
  • Click SCAN.

  • Open PHOTOSHOP.
  • Under the FILE menu, select INPUTEpson
    Perfection 4490
  • In the EPSON scan window select the appropriate
    DOCUMENT SOURCE (Document Table or ADF).
  • Under IMAGE TYPE select either COLOR or GRAYSCALE
    and set resolution for 200-300dpi
  • Click the SCAN button.
