The Parablesof Jesus Christ

Parables
  • Jesus told stories or used short illustrations so
that people could understand his teachings. He
would often use examples that people could relate
    to, like shepherds or vineyards.
  • Jesus is arguably the greatest story teller of
all time. All his stories are originals. No
ancient source can compare in both originality
    and depth of meaning.
  • Example many have argued that the Parable of the
Prodigal Son is the best short story of all time.

The Lost Sheep
Baaaaa!
5
There was once a shepherd who had 100 sheep.
6
One day, one of them ran away and the shepherd
left the other sheep to go find it.
7
Here, Lamby, Lamby!
8
He brought back the sheep to the rest of his
flock.
9
Then, he celebrated with his neighbors about the
return of his sheep. So to, will God do for any
sinner who wanders away.
10
The Lost Coin
  • Jesus said, Suppose a woman has ten silver
coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp,
sweep the house and search carefully until she
    finds it?

11
  • And when she finds it, she calls her friends and
neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me I
have found my lost coin.' In the same way, I tell
you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the
angels of God over one sinner who repents.

12
THE VINEYARD
13
There was once a man with a great vineyard.
14
One day, he left on a journey, and left some
tenants in charge.
15
While he was gone, the tenants decided to keep
the vineyard for themselves.
Its all Ours!!!
16
The owner then sent a servant to go and get some
of the produce of the vineyard.
17
The tenants beat the servant and threw him out.
18
The owner then sent two more servants to collect
some produce.
19
The tenants also beat them and threw them out.
20
The owner then sent his only son and heir,
thinking that the tenants would listen to him.
21
The tenants, when seeing the son decided to kill
him and receive his inheritance.
22
When the owner returned, he had the tenants
arrested and he gave the vineyard away.
BAD SERVANTS!

23
This story shows the story of Jesus. God (owner)
sent the prophets (servants) but they were
ignored. Then God sent His only Son (Jesus)
thinking that people would listen to Him, but
they killed Jesus instead.

Workers in a Vineyard
  • Matthew 201-16

25
Workers in a Vineyard
  • One day a man went out to hire some workers to
    work in his vineyard.
  • He hired some workers and agreed to pay them what
he thought was fair and so they began to work.
  • A little while later he went out to the
    marketplace to hire more workers

26
Workers in a Vineyard
  • He agreed to pay them what was fare and they too
began to work with the other workers .
  • Later, in the early afternoon, he went out again
to the marketplace to hire workers.
  • When he hired even more workers he once again
agreed to pay them what was fair.
  • They too began to work with the other workers.

27
Workers in a Vineyard
  • The man went out once more to the marketplace to
    hire more workers.
  • It was late in the day and no one had hired them
so they immediately agreed to work for him.
  • He agreed to pay them what was fair and they also
began to work with the others.

28
Workers in a Vineyard
  • When it cam time where they could no longer work,
the man paid everyone starting with who he hired
    last.
  • The man gave everyone the same pay.
  • When the workers who worked all day started to
complain the man said I paid you exactly what we
    agreed on.

29
Workers in a Vineyard
  • In this parable we learn that all people have an
equal chance of getting into heaven.
  • We should be happy and not feel jealous when God
    is good to other people.
  • Gods ways are not our ways (thank God!)
  • What we have, we dont deserve anyway -- Its
    all grace!

30
A Story About Two Sons
  • Matthew 2128-32

31
A Story About Two Sons
  • This is a story about a man who had two sons.
  • One day the man asked his older son Son, go and
    work in the vineyard today!
  • His son said he wouldnt, but repented and later
went to work in the vineyard.

32
A Story About Two Sons
  • The man asked his youngest son Son, go and work
    in the vineyard today!
  • His son said he would, but never actually went to
    work in the vineyard.
  • Which did as their father asked? The one who
    actually did the work.
  • In this story we learn that what we do is more
important then what we promise to do.

33
The Good SamaritanWho is My Neighbor?
  • A man was going down from Jerusalem to
Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers.
They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and
went away, leaving him half dead.

34
  • A priest happened to be going down the same
road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on
the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to
the place and saw him, passed by on the other
    side.
  • But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the
man was and when he saw him, he took pity on
    him.
  • He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring
on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own
donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.
The next day he took out two silver coins and
gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he
said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you
for any extra expense you may have.

35
The Parable of Prodigal Son.
36
There was a man who had two sons, the younger son
said, give me my half of the estate. And he did.
37
After he had received his half of the estate he
left. And squandered his money on wild living
38
After he had spent everything, there was a severe
famine in the country, so he found a job feeding
pigs for a farmer. He became so hungry, that
even what the pigs were eating looked good to
him, but no one gave him anything.
39
He finally decided that he would go back to his
father and ask if he could work as a servant in
his fathers home. When his father saw him
coming, he was filled with compassion and ran to
him, and embraced him.
40
His father sent servants to fetch him robes and
rings, and to prepare a great feast in honor of
his sons return home. Meanwhile the older
brother was working in the fields. When he
returned he heard music and dancing and asked a
servant what was going on. The servant told him
it was because his brother had come home.
41
He was angry and refused to go into the party, so
his father came out to plead with him. The
brother said that he had been working hard while
his brother was out squandering his estate of
wild living, so why is it that his brother
receives a party and he does not. And his father
replied, My son, you are always with me,
everything I have is yours., but your brother was
lost and now he is found, he was dead and now he
is alive.
42
The Parable of the Sower of the Seeds.
43
A sower went out to sow his seed.
44
As he sowed, some fell along the path, and were
trodden under foot, and the birds of the air
devoured it.
45
And some fell upon the rock and as it grew up,
it withered away, because it had no moister.
46
And some fell among the thorns and the thorns
grew with it, and choked it.
47
And some fell among good soil and grew, and
yielded a hundredfold.
48
The Seed is the word of God.
49
The seeds that fell
  • Along the path are those who have heard the
word, then the Devil comes and takes away the
word from their hearts so that they may not be
    saved.
  • Upon the rocks are those who hear the word and
receive it with joy, but these seeds have no
roots, so they eventually wither away.
  • Among the thorns, they are those who hear the
word, but as they go on there way, they are
choked by the riches and pleasures of life, and
    their fruit does not mature.

50
The Parable of the Talents
A man was going on a journey and he called his
servants to him and gave them talents (Money)
51
When the man came back, he received double what
he had given to the first two, but the last had
taken his talent and buried it in the ground.
I am burying my talents In the ground
52
The man was pleased with the first two men and
told them to share their masters happiness, but
he was angry at the third man and took his talent
away and gave it to the other men
53
The Judgment of the Nations
54
When the Son of Man comes in his glory he will
sit upon his throne and all the nations will be
assembled before him. And he will separate the
sheep from the goats. . .
Baa! Im a sheep!
Baa! Im a goat!
55
To the Sheep Come, you who are blessed, inherit
the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation
of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me
food, thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger
and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me, in prison and you
visited me.
56
When did we see you hungry, thirsty, ill, naked
or in prison?
And the king will say, Whatever you did For the
least of my brothers and sisters you did To me.
57
Then the King will say to those on his left,
Depart from me, you accursed into the eternal
fire prepared for the devils and his angels. For
I was hungry and you gave me no food, thirsty and
you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me
no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing,
ill and in prison and you did not care for me.
58
When did we see you hungry or thirsty or a
stranger or naked Or ill or in prison?
59
What you did not do for the least of my brothers
and sisters you did not do for me.
60
And these will go off to eternal punishment, But
the righteous to eternal life.
