Law Enforcement Official?
  • A police officer pulled over a car for a traffic
    violation. The driver appeared to be
    non-American. He stopped, then got out of the car
    and approached the officers car, shouting and
    waving his arms. The officer wondered if this
    person was dangerous or unstable, preparing to
    attack him/her.

  • In some cultures, you dont inconvenience a
    police officer by making him/her get out of the
    car and come to you. Waiting for the officer or
    doing nothing is a tacit admission of guilt. In
    the context of the drivers cultural norms, he
    was paying the officer the utmost respect by
    stepping out of the car. Waving his arms letting
    him know he is unarmed.
