The problem with preventing crime
  • Development and planning treat safety from crime
as an afterthoughtthis is dangerous - it is the
    essence of community building
  • Crime prevention policy treats crime as single

  • Prevention programs use one strategy or one

    law enforcementthis is shortsighted

The problem with policing
  • Police cannot prevent crime by themselves
  • Police are dependent on community for legitimacy
    and support
  • A disorganized or dysfunctional community cannot
protect itself, it is unconscious about ability
    to solve its own problems
  • A safe place happens by creating a sense of
    community and neighbourhood ownershipa
    conscious community

criminology, and school safety experience of its
    founders

    sustaining safe neighbourhoods
  • Civitas uses modern crime prevention, analysis,
    enforcement collaborative problem-solving
  • Civitas begins with a neighbourhood profile
