The church shapes politics and society
  • The clergy were very influential in medieval
    European culture and politics. For a lot of
    people in the middle ages , life revolved around
    most of the local church's. Church officials
    often became political advisors to the local
    rulers.

The Monks of Cluny
  • The monks of Cluny, France established a new
    religious order. They dedicated their lives to
    religion with common rules. Most of the monks
    lived apart from the society, but two new
    religious orders developed for those who wanted
    to live and teach among the people..

  • These were the Dominicans, started by Dominic de
    Guzman and the Franciscans, started by Francis
    Assisi. The members of these orders were called
    friars

  • Europe's first universities were built by the
    church. What they taught them is Religion, law,
    medicine, and philosophy. The Dominicans friar
    Thomas Aquinas wrote a reasoned argument for the
    existence of God.

    more ways to limit the kings powers. Who

    who created to advise the king.

    rights. Among these rights was habeas corpus.
    That people could not be kept in jail with out a
    reason.

    They had to be charged or convicted at a jury
    trial before they could be arrested. Every body
    even the king had to obey the laws.

  • The king of France dies with no sons. And two men
    claimed his throne. And the English did very well
    winning most of the battles. Joan Arc, rallied
    the France troops. English eventually captured
    and killed Joan.

  • The changes in England was parliaments power
    grew. because the king needed parliaments
    approval to raise money to pay for the costly
    war. The changes in France is the kings power
    grew. During the war, the king had become popular
    with nobles. The democracy in France will have
    to wait .

    goods and rats with fleas carry the plague and

    It was the most deadly disease at the time

  • the manor system fell apart completely in most
    places. In most places there weren't enough
    people to work in the fields. So how many
    people died because of the black death was
    around 25 million people.

  • Once they had the money many fled their manors
    completely.
