Student Objectives
  • Appropriate for students grades 2-5.
  • The student will be able to research some of the
    differences in the United States from the time
    that Lincoln lived to their own lives and write a
    well-organized paragraph on the computer with
    these differences with 95 accuracy.
  • The student will be able to find a picture
    related to their paragraph and paste it above
    their paragraphs.

  • The student will be able to discuss the events of
    the Civil War (Why it started, why it ended,
    etc.) in a classroom discussion with 95
    accuracy.
  • The student will be able to create a brochure
    about Lincolns life that includes pictures.

Unit Summary
  • This is a two part project that examines the
    background of Abraham Lincoln and allows the
     students to understand how Lincoln lived his
    life in comparison to way they live their lives. 
    The first part has the student research Lincolns
    life on the internet and create a brochure
    illustrating it.

Unit Summary cont.
  • For the second part of the project, each student
    will pick a particular aspect of Lincolns life
    and make a presentation for the class.  Some
    examples of possible presentations could be, a
    group skit, a reading of the Gettysburg Address
    with costume, an in depth explanation of
    Lincolns hat, etc.

  • Born - February 12, 1809 in Hodgenville, Kentucky
    in a one room cabin
  • Abraham was named after his grandfather

  • When Abraham Lincoln was two, the family moved to
    a farm on nearby Knob Creek.
  • Most of the day was spent hunting, farming,

  • His formal education consisted of perhaps 18
    months of schooling

    from books and newspapers borrowed from neighbors

  • The Lincoln Penny was first issued in 1909 for
    Abraham Lincoln's 100th birthday.
  • It was the first American coin to have a
    president's image on its face.

  • The U.S. five dollar bill currently features U.S.
    President Abraham Lincoln's portrait on the front
    side and the Lincoln Memorial on the back.
    Previous versions of the five dollar bill
    featured Alexander Hamilton (1862), Andrew
    Jackson (1869), and Ulysses S. Grant (1886).

    North and the war was over
