• Is it true or is it just for consoling the
  mourning relatives of the departed? There had
  been many discussions about life after death. The
  mystery about the dark tunnel and the blinding
  light still persists. Although, nearly every
  religion talks about karma, salvation, life after
  death resurrection. But is there a scientific
  proof to validate the claims of the Holy
  Scriptures.

• But another question which arises here is that
  is it justified to just disregard the concept of
  life after death brought forth by the sacred
  scriptures only because we still are clueless
  about it? Is it not like arguing against the
  existence of God on the grounds that I have not
  found him in my test tube? The scientific method
  is an incredibly powerful tool, but like any
  other tool, it too has its limitations.
• We observe the physical manifestations of
  consciousness to cease when the body dies. We
  dont observe the spirit to cease to exist
  because we do not observe the spirit at all.
  Spirit can be considered as a form of energy.
  Thus life after death can be analyzed under the
  light of principle of conservation of energy,
  which states that Energy can neither be created
  nor destroyed, it can only be transformed. The
  immortality of the soul can said to have
  spiritual equivalence to the theory.

Quran states that this worldly life is a
preparation for the eternal life after death.
Bhagvat Gita talks extensively about afterlife.
Buddhism also maintains that rebirth takes place
without an unchanging self or soul passing from
one form to another. Sikhs also believe in
reincarnation. Christianity too vouches for life
after death and so do Wicca, Zoroastrianism and
Judaism.

• All these religions came into existence at
  different point of time. But each of them, in one
  way or the other upheld the theory of life after
  death, judgment day, heaven and hell. The belief
  in life after death not only guarantees success
  in hereafter but also makes this world peaceful
  and happy by making individuals more responsible
  and dutiful in their activities.
• So, could it possibly be the reason for all the
  religions vouching for it? One cannot say this
  for sure. But this idea, even if it is a creation
  of human mind, could prove to be very helpful in
  making world a better place to live. If a person
  has firm belief in eternal life, heaven and hell
  then she/he wouldnt do anything to jeopardize
  her/his future thereby making this world a
  peaceful place.
