- Henri Mattise was the most famous painter who
used this style. - He was a French painter who lived from 1869 to
1954. - The top photo was taken in 1933.
- His self-portrait was made using the style that
he made famous. - He was one of the best known artists of the
twentieth century.

- Matisse had a fondness for bright and expressive
colors. - Fauvist artists used wild colors without regard
for the natural color of what they were painting.

- Derain was a French painter who lived at the same
time as Matisse. - He also used colors from the opposite sides of
the color wheel. - The scenery in his paintings is not painted to
look natural. (This was done on purpose.) - Some of his paintings sell for up to 6,000,000
today.
