Library

Library Hours
  • The Library is open to students from 815 until
    300 every day.
  • In addition, the Library will be open until 330
    on Wednesdays for students who wish to do
    additional work or research.
  • The Library is also open on Wednesday mornings at
    800 a.m. for students who have a note from a
    teacher or a parent.

Sign-In Procedures
A student who comes to the Library on an
individual pass must sign-in and out at the
circulation desk. 1. Stamp your paper pass in
the time clock 2. Sign-in on the daily sheet,
printing - your name (first and last) - the
name of the teacher who sent you - the time the
time clock stamped on your pass 3. File your
pass in the sorter behind the letter with which
your last name begins 4. Conduct your library
business (research, checkout a book, take an AR
test, etc.)

Sign-Out Procedures
  • 1. Remove your pass from the sorter.
  • 2. Stamp it in the time clock on the opposite
    side of the pass.
  • 3. Write down your time out on the sign-in
    sheet.
  • 4. Take your pass back to your teacher.

Magazines
  • Current magazines are found under the bulletin
    boards on the hall-side of the Library.
  • Current magazines on display may not be checked
    out.
  • Older issues of magazines, which are kept in
    storage, may be checked out for student projects.

Fiction Books
  • Fiction books are found on the back wall of the
    Library. Fiction books are made-up stories.
  • Fiction books have the call number FIC in the
    catalog. After FIC, you will find the first three
    letters of the authors last name.

Nonfiction Books
  • Nonfiction books are found in the tall shelves of
    the Library. Nonfiction books are true
    information, like history and science.
  • Nonfiction books have the call numbers
    000-999.999 in the catalog. After the number,
    you will find the first three letters of the
    authors last name.

Biographies
  • Biographies are found on the low shelves located
    on the trailer/parking lot side of the library. A
    Biography is a book about a persons life.
  • Biographies have the call number B in the
    catalog. After the B, you will find the name of
    the person about whom the book is written.
  • You will also find Autobiographies here. An
    Autobiography is a book about a persons life,
    written by that person.

Reference Books
  • Reference Books are found in the low shelves in
    the middle of the Library. Reference Books
    contain lots of good information about different
    subjects.
  • Reference Books have the call number REF in the
    catalog. After the REF, you will find the call
    number telling you what the subject is, and the
    first three letters of the authors name (REF
    796 COO is a sports Reference Book.)
  • Reference Books remain in the library. Students
    may not check out Reference Books.

Short Story Collection
  • Short Story books are located behind the
    Reference section on the low shelves. Short
    Stories are many short works of fiction in one
    book.
  • Short Story books have the call number SC in the
    catalog. After the number, you will find the
    authors last name.

Checkout Rules
  • Your student ID number is needed to checkout
    library books. The last 4 digits of this number
    is needed to take Accelerated Reader tests also.
    Begin to memorize your number. (If you should
    forget, your number is kept at the circulation
    desk.)
  • Reference books are not checked out.
  • Books are checked out for three (3) weeks.
  • A student may have no more than two (2) books
    checked out at a time.
  • Magazines (not the current issue) may be checked
    out for student projects only and are due the
    following day.

Overdue Book Rules
  • YOU are responsible for returning books on the
    date put on the front of your book.
  • A student with an overdue book or a book due on
    that same day, may not check out an additional
    book.
  • Repeated overdue books can cause you to lose your
    privilege to checkout Library books.
  • Manchester Middle Library does not charge fines.

Copy Machine
  • The Library has a black and white photocopier
    located near the circulation desk. The Library
    Staff will make copies for students. The cost is
    ten (10) cents per page.The circulation desk has
    change for dollar bills and quarters only.

Computer Printers
  • Using the following rules, students may print
    from the Library computers
  • Always ask a Library Staff member for permission
    to print.
  • The first page of printing is free additional
    pages are five (5) cents each.
  • Ask for help to print only the pages you need
    unneeded pages will cost you money!
  • When ready, press the print button ONE TIME ONLY.
  • A Library Staff member will remove your pages
    from the printer and notify you that they are
    ready.

Appropriate Library Behaviors
  • Students are expected to
  • Always walk no running allowed.
  • Whisper at all times.
  • Be silent when a teacher or librarian is talking.
  • Show respect to and for all others in the
    Library.
  • Put books back correctly when you are finished.
  • Use computers correctly. Computer misuse is
    talked about in the Student Handbook.
  • Push your chair in when you get up.
  • Exit the security gate one-by-one. Do not crowd.

Online Databases
  • Manchester Middle Library has many databases to
    help you with your work.
  • The databases are available through the Library
    Catalog where you look for books .
