Why has almost nothing been done to reduce the
incidence of PD? Why do so many of those
suffering have no idea what might have caused it?
The American Parkinson Disease Association
(APDA) allowed this statement in its newsletter
21 in 2006 Parkinsons disease remains a
condition which cannot be prevented or cured.
But what about the data since 1990s? If a cause
is known, that is the beginning of prevention.
Rejoice APDA! Dont deny! Fund RCTs (Randomised
Controlled trials)

FROM PARKINSON DISEASE FOUNDATION WEB 2007
What causes PD? As is the case with many
neurological disorders, the cause of Parkinsons
disease is not known. However, scientists and
researchers are working diligently to uncover the
possible cause(s), including genetics and
environmental factors, of Parkinsons disease.

2007!!! Slow learners? Like the APDA.

In the UK May 30th 2007
  • Gardeners more likely to develop Parkinsons
    disease
  • Dr. Finlay Dick, University of Aberdeen
  • Further research is needed to establish which
pesticides are associated with this effect
  • The exposure-response relationship suggests that
pesticide exposure may be a causative and
    potentially modifiable risk factor

YES!

However, there is hope In APRIL 2007 the
Michael J. Fox foundation noted, quite correctly
one of the greatest hurdles in developing new
treatments ..is the lack of good measurements..
The Parkinsons Disease Biomarker - - - the
UPDRS - - - is a clinical measurevery sensitive
to symptom-masking effects of drugs, which can
make it very difficult to measure underlying
disease modifying effects sought in
neuroprotective trials.
Comment Correct! AND there do not seem to be
any quantitative measures of accuracy, eg
inter-rater reliability or predictive validity.
(An objective measure developed at UCLA should
receive further funding.)

MORE HOPE Funded byMichael J. Fox Foundation,

(aascheri_at_hsph.harvard.edu)
Results Exposure to pesticides was reported by
7,864 participants (5.7), including 1,956
farmers, ranchers, or fishermen. Individuals
exposed to pesticides had a 70 higher incidence
of PD than those not exposed (adjusted relative
risk, 1.7 95 confidence interval, 1.2-2.3 p
0.002). The relative risk for pesticide exposure
was similar in farmers and nonfarmers. No
relation was found between risk for PD and
exposure to asbestos, chemical/acids/solvents,
coal or stone dust, or eight other occupational
exposures.
These data support the hypothesis that exposure
to pesticides may increase risk for PD. Future
studies should seek to identify the specific
chemicals responsible for this association.

June 26th 2006
  • Researchers at the
  • HARVARD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH undertook a
prospective study to examine possible links
between chronic low-dose exposure to pesticides
    and PARKINSONs disease.
  • The significant association between pesticide
    exposure and Parkinsons disease among
individuals who are not farmers is most likely
explained by use of pesticides at home or in
    gardening

Gardening is dangerous! So are sprays. Does
someone spray your condo or house with pesticides
youve never heard of ? ASK!
You might eventually suffer from
Tremors Stooping stance Deformed jaw Loss of
balance Stuffy nose and loss of sense of smell A
wandering eye Rigidity Memory loss Etc

Then, eventually, a lack of responsiveness a
blank stare, needing 1-on-1 care - - - a living
death. Then finally an early death from
Parkinsons
Ask your garden center to stop using pesticides

So.. It is clear that pesticides are a major
cause of PD
Many studies, carefully meta analysed feasible
mechanisms eg insect neurons destroyed by the
same pesticide-damage that kills human neurons or
rat neurons
Yet, in the US, very few people know that
pesticides are a major cause  and , it seems,
there is no good system to ban those pesticides
that should be banned.... and insufficient
warnings to gardeners and agricultural workers.
BUT ..the APDA is still in denial about
pesticides a leaflet for its 2008
Walk-a-thon states the ultimate goals of
discovering the cause and cure remain elusive.
Causes are known.A cure is not! Dont they read?!

Pharmaceutical companies benefit from both ?

Found on the web Chance confirmation of
tentative suspicions that companies benefit from
both Pesticides AND Parkinsons.
With revenues of 14 billion, Zeneca is among
the world's largest manufacturers of pesticides,
plastics, and pharmaceuticals.

End the tragedy of Parkinson's
- - - BAN PESTICIDES (Hire
more gardeners and farm workers - - - and
provide better working conditions)

Please..
___Show your Doctor Does he or she know what is
the likely cause of the ever-increasing numbers
of tortured People-with-Parkinsons?
___ Send information to your members of
Parliament in the UK or your representatives in
the US House and Senate. Urge that pesticides
be banned until good research picks out which, if
any, can be used safely.
____Warn gardeners and farm-workers
____Initiate a law suit.??
