University Senate not a Faculty Senate

• Powers By-Laws, Article IX (BOT) The
  University Senate is a legislative body and
  concerns itself with minimum rules, general
  regulations, pertaining to all undergraduate
  schools and colleges and with policy insofar as
  it pertains in a general way to the educational
  program of the institution and is not reserved to
  the Board of Trustees, to the administration, or
  to the several faculties.

Responsibilities of Elected Senators

• Participate in committee work.

  Senate.

Senate Committees Senate Executive Committee

• Elected by the Senate.
• Membership includes eight faculty members, one
  professional staff member, and one student
  member.
• The SEC organizes and coordinates the business of
  the Senate and its committees.
• Is charged by Article IX.G. of the Board of
  Trustees to be available to be consulted as the
  voice of the Senate.

Senate Committees Nominating Committee

• Six members elected by the Senate.
• Includes faculty and professional staff
• Prepares nominations for ballots.
• Recommends appointees to Senate Standing
  Committees.

Senate Committees Growth Development

• shall keep under review the general changes,
  actual and prospective, of the University over
  time and may recommend any desirable expressions
  of Senate opinion on these matters.
• Committee includes two undergraduates and one
  graduate student.

Senate Committees University Budget

• reviews the planning, negotiation, and
  allocation of the University operating, capital,
  and other budgets, the process of making
  budgetary and financial decisions and the
  determination of priorities among academic and
  other programs having financial implications.
• Committee includes two undergraduates and one
  graduate student.

Senate Committees Enrollment

• proposes legislation within the jurisdiction of
  the Senate and make recommendations on all
  matters relating to the recruitment, admission,
  enrollment, and retention of an outstanding and
  diverse student population.
• Committee includes two undergraduate students.

Senate Committees Curricula Courses

• prepares legislation within the jurisdiction of
  the Senate on course requirements for general
  education of all undergraduate schools and
  colleges and specific courses open to freshmen
  and sophomores.
• Committee includes two undergraduate students.

Senate Committees General Education Oversight
Committee

• A faculty group appointed by the Senate and
  representative of the Schools and Colleges to
  monitor the General Education Curriculum.
• A subcommittee of the Curricula Courses
  Committee.
• The Chair of CC and the Directors of the W and Q
  Centers are non-voting members.
• Committee includes one undergraduate and one
  graduate student.
• Works in association with the Office of
  Undergraduate Education and Instruction because
  this office has University-wide responsibility
  for the health of undergraduate education.

Senate Committees Diversity

• University policies, practices, and conditions
  relevant to supporting and promoting diversity
  among students, faculty, and staff. This
  committee may recommend any desirable expressions
  of Senate opinion on these matters...
• Committee includes two undergraduates and one
  graduate student.

Senate Committees Student Welfare

• reviews the conditions that contribute to the
  academic success, personal development and
  well-being of students, including available forms
  of financial aid. It may seek the opinion of the
  Senate on such matters and make recommendations.
• Committee includes two undergraduates and one
  graduate student.

Senate Committees Faculty Standards

• reviews University policies and practices
  relating to tenure, academic freedom, work loads,
  rank and promotion, remuneration, retirement, and
  other matters affecting the faculty and shall
  propose any desirable expression of Senate
  opinion on these matters, including proposals to
  the Trustees for modifications in their rules and
  regulations on these matters.
• Committee includes two undergraduates and one
  graduate student.

Senate Committees Scholastic Standards

• prepares legislation within the jurisdiction of
  the Senate concerning those scholastic matters
  affecting the University as a whole, and not
  assigned to the Curricula and Courses Committee,
  including special academic programs, the marking
  system, scholarship standards, and the like.
• Committee includes two undergraduates students
  and one graduate student.

University Committees Faculty Review Board

• Six members elected by the Senate.
• Must be non-administrative, full professors
• Reviews PTR cases referred to it by the Provost
  and may supplement the case materials with
  additional opinions.
• the FRB submits a written recommendation to the
  Provost and informs the faculty member in writing
  of its recommendation, together with reasons for
  it.

University Committees Committee of Three

• Three members elected by the Senate.
• Faculty grievances only after appropriate
  administrative remedies have been exhausted.
• Complaints involving PTR decisions may be brought
  to the Committee of Three only at the end of a
  sequence of peer review procedures, including
  those of the Faculty Review Board.
