2Why football, and why a Red Card?
- International football competitions are
mobilizing events, covered by a dense network of
media and followed by a huge public. - Foul play actions that are dangerous to players
and penalizing to their team are sanctioned with
a Red Card.
3- The first Red Card Campaign was launched in 2002
in partnership with FIFA and CAF, at the ACN
(Mali). - In 2002, CAF signed a MOU with ILO on child
labour. - In 2003, FIFA and ILO issued a joint media
release, expressing their will to unite efforts
to fight child labour. - Other Red Card Campaigns have been organized in
national and international football competitions
worldwide.
4- Numerous world leaders
- and celebrities from sports
- and the arts are actively
- supporting the campaign,
- among others holding publicly
- the Red Card.

- Egypt is hosting the ACN 2006
- 3 million working children (1/6 of all workers)
- First survey on child labour soon published
- First national strategy for child labour soon

6- The Red Card Campaign at the ACN 2006 (Egypt) is
organized by ILO in partnership with Egypts
National Council for Childhood and Motherhood. - It is launched under the auspices of Egypts
First Lady, Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak. - It has achieved broad ILO support (IPEC, DCOMM,
RO Africa, and SRO Yaoundé).
7- In Egypt too the Campaign is receiving wide
support.
