  • International headline news report that at least
100 influenza cases were identified by local
health authorities in a small town in Indonesia
last week previously affected by human cases of
bird flu. The same sources indicate that human to
    human transmission has been confirmed.
  • Indonesian authorities with the support of
experts of WHO and other countries try to contain
the disease implementing drastic measures, among
them the prohibition of transit toward and from
the province where the community is located.
  • What pandemic phase is this?

  • The Minister of Health of Alegria Alegria, the

  • At this stage, should the Minister summon the
    Health Response Team or not?

  • A schooner loaded with chickens, coming from a
neighboring country with confirmed avian flu
cases, while trying to escape from the coast
guard, ditched its burden of apparently sick
chickens which washed ashore and were collected
    by the population.
  • The Minister of Health asks you how can the
population recognize a chicken affected by avian
    flu?

  • The President of Alegria Alegria requests the
Ministers of National Security, Local Government
and Health to screen all passengers and strict
quarantine for those that arrive at the airport
with influenza symptoms. In addition, a media
report indicates that there are dozens of
pandemic influenza suspect cases in a neighboring
country, with which there is huge commercial
exchange and migration flow. The population is
alarmed and requests urgent action to the
    government.
  • What would be the best action regarding
    international travelers at this stage?

  • The number of people seeking health care in
Alegria Alegria has increased and it is reducing
health stockpiles of medicines and supplies. The
    previously already saturated emergency services
are pressed to take care of apparently
non-serious cases of influenza. Tension is rising
between the hospital security staff and the
people who attempt to access the emergency
services. Doctors, nurses and other health
personnel in contact with pandemic influenza like
illnesses use common disposable masks and gloves.
  • The Minister of Health requests your support for
    PPE and antiviral medicines.

vaccine. The national immunization program has
some thousands doses. The national and local
