    support.
  • Worksite and school health and wellness programs
    are the best way to access 65 of the targeted
    at-risk population.
  • Community based programs have had modest impact
    on long-term weight loss and have yet to affect
    the prevalence of obesity.
  • Worksite programs show positive affects on weight
    management, chronic illness, absenteeism and
    productivity, employee satisfaction, cost savings
    in health care coverage and lost work days.

  • The focus group and the respondents to the health
    questionnaire were helpful in giving their input
    for program content.
  • Results mirror the literature review research in
    the most effective programs.
  • The group revealed that they wanted physician
    involvement, help with meal planning, ongoing
    support, and health education.

Program Implementation
  • The Erie Co. Health Dept. Division of Community
    Health will develop and implement this program
    this summer of 2007.
  • Other partnerships will be reviewed for future
    program content such as the YMCA Steps program
    for fitness.
  • Pilot program testing the program will begin with
    the city and county employees then rolled out to
    the entire county.
