The Story Turns to Joseph, First born by Rachel
An Explanation of the way Prophecy was fulfilled
concerning Israel becoming strangers in a foreign
land.. Joseph was to to go before them into Egypt
and become a protector for Israel, his family.
5
Hatred and Envy in the Fulfillment of the Word
  • 3. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his
children, because he was the son of his old age
and he made him a coat of many colours.
  • 4. And when his brethren saw that their father
loved him more than all his brethren, they hated
him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
  • 5. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it
his brethren and they hated him yet the more.

6
Satan Would Destroy, Joseph, to be the Seeds
protector, But God says NO!
  • Slay Him through family hatred. Possible source
    of this hatred?
  • 3719. And they said one to another, Behold,
    this dreamer cometh.
  • 20. Come now therefore, and let us slay him,
and cast him into one of the pits, and we will
say, And evil beast hath devoured him and we
shall see what will become of his dreams.
  • 21. And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out
of their hand, and said, Let us not take his
    life.
  • 22. And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood
cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness,
but lay no hand upon him that he might deliver
him out of their hand, to restore him to his
    father.
  • 28. And there passed by Midianites, merchantmen
and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the
pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for
twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph
    into Egypt.
  • 36. And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto
Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of
    the guard.

Joseph is Spared when wrongfully Accused of a
Capital Crime
  • 3912. And she caught him by his garment,
saying, Lie with me and he left his garment in
her hand, and fled, and got him out. 13. And
it came to pass, when she saw that he had left
his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
    14. that she called unto the men of her house,
and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought
in a Hebrew unto us to mock us he came in unto
me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice
  • 15. and it came to pass, when he heard that I
lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his
garment by me, and fled, and got him out. 16.
And she laid up his garment by her, until his
    master came

8
Potiphar, capt. of the guard Gen. 3736
  • 3920. And Joseph's master took him, and put him
into the prison, the place where the king's
prisoners were bound and he was there in the
prison. 21. But Jehovah was with Joseph, and
showed kindness unto him, and gave him favor in
the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22. And
the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's
hand all the prisoners that were in the prison
and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of
it. 23. The keeper of the prison looked not
to anything that was under his hand, because
Jehovah was with him and that which he did,
    Jehovah made it prosper.
  • Because of his character, and gift of dream
interpretation, he eventual was made governor of
Egypt and brought his family into Egypt where
    they thrived for 400 years.

9
How Joseph Became governor of Egypt
  • Gen. 40 2. And Pharaoh was wroth against his
two officers, against the chief of the butlers,
and against the chief of the bakers.
  • 3. And he put them in ward in the house of the
captain of the guard, into the prison, the place
    where Joseph was bound.
  • 4. And the captain of the guard charged Joseph
with them, and he ministered unto them and they
    continued a season in ward.
  • 5. And they dreamed a dream both of them, each
man his dream, in one night, each man according
to the interpretation of his dream, the butler
and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were
    bound in the prison.

10
6. And Joseph came in unto them in the morning,
and saw them, and, behold, they were sad. 7.
And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with
him in ward in his master's house, saying,
Wherefore look ye so sad to-day? 8. And they
said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there
is none that can interpret it. And Joseph said
unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God?
tell it me, I pray you. 9. And the chief
butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him,
In my dream, behold, a vine was before me 10.
and in the vine were three branches and it was
as though it budded, and its blossoms shot forth
and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe
grapes 11. and Pharaoh's cup was in my hand
and I took the grapes, and pressed them into
Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's
hand.
11
12. And Joseph said unto him, This is the
interpretation of it the three branches are
three days 13. within yet three days shall
Pharaoh lift up thy head, and restore thee unto
thine office and thou shalt give Pharaoh's cup
into his hand, after the former manner when thou
wast his butler. 14. But have me in thy
remembrance when it shall be well with thee, and
show kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make
mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of
this house 15. for indeed I was stolen away
out of the land of the Hebrews and here also
have I done nothing that they should put me into
the dungeon.
12
16. When the chief baker saw that the
interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I
also was in my dream, and, behold, three baskets
of white bread were on my head 17. and in the
uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked
food for Pharaoh and the birds did eat them out
of the basket upon my head. 18. And Joseph
answered and said, This is the interpretation
thereof the three baskets are three days 19.
within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy
head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a
tree and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off
thee.
13
Joseph Interprets Pharaohs Dream
  • 411. And it came to pass at the end of two full
years, that Pharaoh dreamed and, behold, he
    stood by the river.
  • 2. And, behold, there came up out of the river
seven kine, well-favored and fat-fleshed and
    they fed in the reed-grass.
  • 3. And, behold, seven other kine came up after
them out of the river, ill-favored and
lean-fleshed, and stood by the other kine upon
    the brink of the river.
  • 4. And the ill-favored and lean-fleshed kine
did eat up the seven well-favored and fat kine.
    So Pharaoh awoke.
  • 5. And he slept and dreamed a second time and,
behold, seven ears of grain came up upon one
    stalk, rank and good.

14
6. And, behold, seven ears, thin and blasted
with the east wind, sprung up after them. 7.
And the thin ears swallowed up the seven rank and
full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was
a dream. 8. And it came to pass in the morning
that his spirit was troubled and he sent and
called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all
the wise men thereof and Pharaoh told them his
dream but there was none that could interpret
them unto Pharaoh. 9. Then spake the chief
butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my
faults this day 10. Pharaoh was wroth with
his servants, and put me in ward in the house of
the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker
11. and we dreamed a dream in one night, I and
he we dreamed each man according to the
interpretation of his dream.
15
12. And there was with us there a young man, a
Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard and
we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams
to each man according to his dream he did
interpret. 13. And it came to pass, as he
interpreted to us, so it was me he restored unto
mine office, and him he hanged. 14. Then
Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought
him hastily out of the dungeon and he shaved
himself, and changed his raiment, and came in
unto Pharaoh. 15. And Pharaoh said unto
Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none
that can interpret it and I have heard say of
thee, that when thou hearest a dream thou canst
interpret it.
16
16. And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is
not in me God will give Pharaoh an answer of
peace. 17. And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, In my
dream, behold, I stood upon the brink of the
river 18. and, behold, there came up out of the
river seven kine, fat-fleshed and well-favored
and they fed in the reed-grass 19. and, behold,
seven other kine came up after them, poor and
very ill-favored and lean-fleshed, such as I
never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness
20. and the lean and ill-favored kine did eat up
the first seven fat kine 21. and when they had
eaten them up, it could not be known that they
had eaten them but they were still ill-favored,
as at the beginning. So I awoke. 22. And I saw
in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up upon
one stalk, full and good 23. and, behold,
seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the
east wind, sprung up after them 24. and the
thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears and I
told it unto the magicians but there was none
that could declare it to me.
17
25. And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of
Pharaoh is one what God is about to do he hath
declared unto Pharaoh. 26. The seven good kine
are seven years and the seven good ears are
seven years the dream is one. 27. And the
seven lean and ill-favored kine that came up
after them are seven years, and also the seven
empty ears blasted with the east wind they shall
be seven years of famine. 28. That is the
thing which I spake unto Pharaoh what God is
about to do he hath showed unto Pharaoh. 29.
Behold, there come seven years of great plenty
throughout all the land of Egypt 30. and
there shall arise after them seven years of
famine and all the plenty shall be forgotten in
the land of Egypt and the famine shall consume
the land 31. and the plenty shall not be
known in the land by reason of that famine which
followeth for it shall be very grievous.
18
32. And for that the dream was doubled unto
Pharaoh, it is because the thing is established
by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
33. Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man
discreet and wise, and set him over the land of
Egypt. 34. Let Pharaoh do this, and let him
appoint overseers over the land, and take up the
fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven
plenteous years. 35. And let them gather all
the food of these good years that come, and lay
up grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in
the cities, and let them keep it. 36. And the
food shall be for a store to the land against the
seven years of famine, which shall be in the land
of Egypt that the land perish not through the
famine. 37. And the thing was good in the eyes
of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
19
42. And Pharaoh took off his signet ring from
his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and
arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a
gold chain about his neck 43. and he made him
to ride in the second chariot which he had and
they cried before him, Bow the knee and he set
him over all the land of Egypt. 44. And
Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and
without thee shall no man lift up his hand or his
foot in all the land of Egypt. 45. And Pharaoh
called Joseph's name Zaphenath-paneah and he
gave him to wife Asenath, the daughter of
Poti-phera priest of On. And Joseph went out over
the land of Egypt. 46. And Joseph was thirty
years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of
Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of
Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of
Egypt.
20
After Joseph becomes Gov., A Famine Brings
Josephs Family into Egypt
  • 42 6. And Joseph was the governor over the
land, and he it was that sold to all the people
of the land and Joseph's brethren came, and
bowed down themselves before him with their faces
    to the earth.

21
Genuine Repentance
  • 4431. It shall come to pass, when he seeth that
the lad is not with us, that he will die and thy
servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy
servant our father with sorrow to the grave.
  • 32. For thy servant became surety for the lad
unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto
thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father
    for ever.
  • 33. Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant
abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord
and let the lad go up with his brethren.
  • (Judah had saved Josephs life, 3726)
  • 34. For how shall I go up to my father, and the
lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the
evil that shall come on my father.

22
JOSEPHs VIEW OF ALL. Wants his bones moved to
Canaan
20. But as for you, ye thought evil against me
but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as
it is this day, to save much people alive. 21.
Now therefore fear ye not I will nourish you,
and your little ones. And he comforted them, and
spake kindly unto them. 22. And Joseph dwelt in
Egypt, he, and his father's house and Joseph
lived an hundred and ten years. 23. And Joseph
saw Ephraim's children of the third generation
the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh
were brought up upon Joseph's knees. 24. And
Joseph said unto his brethren, I die and God
will surely visit you, and bring you out of this
land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to
Isaac, and to Jacob. 25. And Joseph took an oath
of the children of Israel, saying, God will
surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones
from hence. 26. So Joseph died, being an
hundred and ten years old and they embalmed him,
and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

How Gods People Cope With Lifes Cruelties
  • Not like Sarah who left God out of her plans and
persuaded her mate to do the same.
  • People re-enact Sarahs sin when they design
    their own plans for
  • The Way to Become a Christian
  • The Way they prefer to Worship God
  • The Way they want to organize the church
  • The Life style they prefer to live

26
How Gods People Cope With Lifes Cruelties
  • Not like Isaac who was determined to bless the
son of his choice over the son of Gods choice.
  • People reenact Isaacs sin when they go directly

On How to Cope
30
How Gods People Cope With Lifes Cruelties
  • Like Joseph By Seeing the BIG Picture. God Can
use You ---- Even in Trouble
  • Gen. 455. Now therefore be not grieved, nor
angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither
for God did send me before you to preserve life.
    7. And God sent me before you to preserve you a
posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by
    a great deliverance.
  • 8. So now it was not you that sent me hither,
    but God

31
How Gods People Cope With Lifes Cruelties
  • LIKE JOSEPH Live so that if someone besmirches
your character, good people wont believe it.
  • What tempered the wrath of Potiphar, the Husband?
    Adultery was a capital offense.
  • Is sparing Josephs life an indication of
Potiphars suspicions of his wifes character?
  • Did her flirtations only begin with Joseph?
  • What stayed the slave owners wrath?

32
How Gods People Cope With Lifes Cruelties
  • LIKE THE WRITER OF HEBREWS
  • They Believe that God allows Trouble in order to
Make Them A Better Child of God.
  • 1210. For they verily for a few days chastened
us after their own pleasure but he for our
profit, that we might be partakers of his
holiness. 11. Now no chastening for the present
seemeth to be joyous, but grievous nevertheless
afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of
righteousness unto them which are exercised
thereby. 12. Wherefore lift up the hands which
    hang down,

How Gods People Cope With Lifes Cruelties
  • By Taking these Examples as straight from God to
Us to save us from being Overcome. (Easier said
    than done, isnt it?)
  • Rom. 15 4. For whatsoever things were written
aforetime were written for our learning, that we
through patience and comfort of the scriptures
    might have hope.
  • I COR. 1011. Now all these things happened unto
them for ensamples and they are written for our
admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are
come. 12. Wherefore let him that thinketh he
standeth take heed lest he fall.

34
Keep in Mind What is Going On!
Satan is trying to prevent God from being able
to fulfill His promise in Genesis 315. 1. He
tried by Sin and death of the family seed.
2. He tried by
universal sin.
3. He tried by a
united will of the people
4. He tried by
thwarting the marriage of Abraham Sarah

5. He tried by substituting the
eldest son through a Fathers pride.

6. He tried by attempting
to destroy Joseph
7.
He will now try by destroying the male Israelites

EXODUS 1 God Saves Moses, His chosen deliverer,
from Pharaohs law of Male Infanticide
  • Ex. 116. And he said, When ye do the office of
a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon
the stools if it be a son, then ye shall kill
him but if it be a daughter, then she shall
    live.
  • 17. But the midwives feared God, and did not as
the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the
    men children alive.
  • GOD MOCKS PHARAOH (SATAN) BY RAISING MOSES IN HIS
    HOUSE AND EDUCATING HIM.

41
GOD USES PHARAOAH TO EDUCATE MOSES
Exodus 23. And when she could not longer hide
him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and
daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the
child therein and she laid it in the flags by
the river's brink.
4. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what
would be done to him. 5. And the daughter of
Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river
and her maidens walked along by the river's side
and when she saw the ark among the flags, she
sent her maid to fetch it. 6. And when she had
opened it, she saw the child and, behold, the
babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and
said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.
42
MOSES MOTHER REARS HER CHILD IN PHAROAHS HOUSE
7. Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter,
Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew
women, that she may nurse the child for thee? 8.
And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the
maid went and called the child's mother. 9. And
Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child
away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee
thy wages. And the woman took the child, and
nursed it. 10. And the child grew, and she
brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he
became her son. And she called his name Moses
and she said, Because I drew him out of the
water. 11. And it came to pass in those days,
when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his
brethren, and looked on their burdens and he
spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his
brethren. 12. And he looked this way and that
way, and when he saw that there was no man, he
slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

EXODUS 2 13-16 AT 40, MOSES KILLS AN EGYPTIAN
FOR WHIPPING AN ISRAELITE AND FLEES FOR HIS
LIFE Goes to Midian and becomes a sheep herder
for Jethro who becomes his Father-in-law. Another
40 years pass and God is now ready to use him as
a deliverer for the children of Israel from
Egyptian slavery and form them into a nation
under God.
44
Moses And the Burning Bush
45
God Calls Moses
1. Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father
in law, the priest of Midian and he led the
flock to the backside of the desert, and came to
the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him
in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush
and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with
fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3. And
Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this
great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4.
And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to
see, God called unto him out of the midst of the
bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here
am I. 5. And he said, Draw not nigh hither put
off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place
whereon thou standest is holy ground.
46
Lessons from the Burning Bush
  • 1. The manner varies but the calling is always
    through the word!
  • A. Heb. 11-2 God, who at sundry times and in
divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days
spoken unto us by his Son,
  • B. 2 Thess. 214. Whereunto he called you by
our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our
    Lord Jesus Christ.

47
2. God Calls those Whom He has equipped
  • 1. He equipped Moses with a formal education
  • 2. Practical ed. 40 years of shepherding.
  • Jesus educated his disciples (Acts 1)
  • They waited for 40 days.
  • Paul waited for 3 years (Gal. 117)

48
Christians are called through education
  • Mt. 28 19. Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
  • 20. Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo, I am
with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
    Amen.
  • John 645 And they shall be all taught of God.
Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath
learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

Christians Are Equipped for their Calling
  • 16. All scripture is given by inspiration of
God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness
  • 17. That the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.

50
The Called are equipped According to their
Abilities
  • Matthew 2515. And unto one he gave five
talents, to another two, and to another one to
every man according to his several ability

51
God Calls Busy people
  • Moses was at work
  • The disciples were at work.
  • Lydia a traveling business lady
  • The lazy need not apply.

52
MOSES EXCUSES ARE STILL AROUND TODAY Ex. 3-4
  • 1. WHO AM I (AGAINST PHARAOH?)
  • 2. WHAT SHALL I SAY WHEN THEY ASK QUESTIONS?
  • 3. THEY WONT BELIEVE ME
  • 4. IM NOT ELOQUENT
  • 5. GET SOMEONE ELSE
  • A GOOD SOUNDING REASON IS NOT ALWAYS A GOOD
    SOUND REASON.

53
Qualifications for Hearing the Call of God as at
the Burning Bush
  • 1. Keep your distance. (N.T. says to draw nigh,
but this means having no intermediary)
  • (Eccl. 1212)
  • 2. If you want Gods Word- remove your shoes
  • 3. Humility Moses hid his face.
  • Nu. 122 Matt. 5 3
  • 4. Here am I Yield to the Word, whatever.
    Example of Mary.

54
The bush still burns when the heart burns to
receive the word
  • 1. Lord, What wilt Thou have me to do?
  • 2. What are you going to do with my me and my
    life.
  • 3. Help me learn and use the rod of thy power.

55
The Great I Am Sends Moses TO Pharaoh
EX. 313. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when
I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say
unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me
unto you and they shall say to me, What is his
name? what shall I say unto them? 14. And God
said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM and he said,
Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel,
I AM hath sent me unto you.
56
Jesus claimed this identification for Himself
John 858. Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily,
I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
57
Moses Confronts Pharaoh With the Rod of God
  • 1. And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and
told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel,
Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto
    me in the wilderness.
  • 2. And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I
should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know
not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.

58
The Test of Serpents
EX. 78. And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto
Aaron, saying, 9. When Pharaoh shall speak unto
you, saying, Shew a miracle for you then thou
shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it
before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.
10. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh,
and they did so as the Lord had commanded and
Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and
before his servants, and it became a serpent.
11. Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and
the sorcerers now the magicians of Egypt, they
also did in like manner with their enchantments.
12. For they cast down every man his rod, and
they became serpents but Aaron's rod swallowed
up their rods. 13. And he hardened Pharaoh's
heart, that he hearkened not unto them as the
Lord had said.
59
The Rod of Gods Power was in Moses Hand Learn
  • Every person has something to give.
  • Often little things we give can make a big
    difference!
  • Often what we give looks so small compared to the
    great need.
  • Often we are asked to give when its not
    convenient!
  • Often we are asked to give the very thing we
    need.
  • The rod of God is in your hand! Are you using it?

60
Gods Calls are Extremely Difficult and Unsettling

Moses, a shepherd, was called to face the
unequalled power of Pharaohthe most difficult
task he could ever fathom.
Esther went in to petition the king when her was
at stake
The disciples were asked to return to Jerusalem,
where the crucifixion took place.
61
WHY THE PLAGUES?
Ex. 52 I know not the Lord, neither will I let
Israel go. 717In this thou shalt know that I am
the Lord (First plague) 510 that thou mayest
know that there is none like unto the Lord our
God. (2nd plague) 822 to the end thou mayest
know that I am the Lord (4th Plague Repeated
after the 7th (929) the 8th (102) the 10th
(117) and at the Red Sea destruction of
Pharaohs army 144, 18).
62
The Ten Plagues Ex. 7-11
  • Water to blood.
  • 2. Swarms of frogs
  • 3. Gnats or lice
  • 4. Swarms of flies (Hebrews spared)
  • 5. Plague upon Cattle with Hebrew stock spared
  • 6. Boils on man and beast
  • 7. Hail, thunder, lightening, except in Hebrew
    Goshen
  • 8. Plague of locusts
  • 9. 3 Days of thick darkness
  • 10. Death of the first born in Egypt, people
    cattle.
  • Hebrews exempted if made sacrificial
    preparations

63
The Purpose of the Plagues
EX. 1212 and against all the gods of Egypt I
will execute judgment I am the Lord. Hek was the
frog goddess of fruitfulness Khepera was a god in
the form of a beetle (fly) Hathor a cow headed
goddess Nut, the sky goddess protector of the
dead. Serapia, the protector from locusts Re the
sun God, king of gods Hapi was the god of the
Nile Taurt, goddess of maternity
64
After the Plagues, the eternal principle of
blessing and Cursing is apparent
  • The wages of sin (rejection and transgression of
Gods word) is death (Rom. 623)
  • But the gift of God (grace) is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom. 623)
  • (the Lamb of God John 129)

65

of a lamb without blemish and without spot
  • 20. Who verily was foreordained before the
foundation of the world, but was manifest in

69
Trust and Obey the Word
  • REV. 2012. And I saw the dead, small and great,
stand before God and the books were opened and
another book was opened, which is the book of
life and the dead were judged out of those
things which were written in the books, according
    to their works.

70
The Passover is Established 121-1316

71
7 Days of festivities followed
Ex. 1215. Seven days shall ye eat unleavened
bread even the first day ye shall put away
leaven out of your houses for whosoever eateth
leavened bread from the first day until the
seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from
Israel. 16. And in the first day there shall be
an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there
shall be an holy convocation to you no manner of
work shall be done in them, save that which every
man must eat, that only may be done of you.
72
The Passover and the feast of unleavened bread
Began on the 14th of Nisan (Abid)
Ex. 1217. And ye shall observe the feast of
unleavened bread for in this selfsame day have I
brought your armies out of the land of Egypt
therefore shall ye observe this day in your
generations by an ordinance for ever. 18. In the
first month, on the fourteenth day of the month
at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the
one and twentieth day of the month at even. 19.

leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from
the congregation of Israel, whether he be a
stranger, or born in the land. 20. Ye shall eat
nothing leavened in all your habitations shall
ye eat unleavened bread.
73
The Shadow of the Feast of Unleavened Bread
  • After Deliverance by the Lamb of God, a life of
    purity should follow.
  • I Pet. 224. Who his own self bare our sins in
his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to
sins, should live unto righteousness by whose
    stripes ye were healed.
  • Be ye holy, for I myself am holy. Lev. 207
  • I Pet. 15. But as he which hath called you is
holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation 16. Because it is written, Be ye
    holy for I am holy.

74
Number in the Exodus
The Exodus
1237 And the children of Israel journeyed from
Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on
foot that were men, beside children. Women and
children not counted in the census Over 2 million
would have been in the exodus.
75
Years in Egypt
1241. And it came to pass at the end of the
four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame
day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the
Lord went out from the land of Egypt.
76
God Makes a Covenant with the New Nation Ex. 19-24
3 MONTHS TO SINAI---The Covenant Made (191) 4.
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and
how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you
unto myself. 5. Now therefore, if ye will obey
my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye
shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all
people for all the earth is mine 6. And ye
shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an
holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt
speak unto the children of Israel. 7. And Moses
came and called for the elders of the people, and
laid before their faces all these words which the
Lord commanded him. 8. And all the people
answered together, and said, All that the Lord
hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the
words of the people unto the Lord.
77
Our Covenant is made after our deliverance at the
cross of Jesus
  • Heb. 1224. You have come to Jesus the
mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that
    of Abel.
  • 25. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh.
For if they escaped not who refused him that
spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if
we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven
  • I Pet. 29. But ye are a chosen generation, a
royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar
    people

78

GOD MAN
79
Our Covenant is in Christ
  • Jer. 31. Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah,
that I will make a new covenant with the house of
Israel, and with the house of Judah
  • Heb 12 24. You have come to Jesus the
mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that
    of Abel.
  • The old covenant was sealed by the blood of an
animal and sprinkled upon the contents of the
temple. The blood of Jesus is sprinkled upon the
    contents of the inner man.

80
The Tabernacle Its makeup
and meaning Exodus 25 26
81
The Tabernacle A Shadow of Jesus and the K.O.H.
Holy of Holies
ARK and mercy seat Gods throne and dwelling place
Lamp stand Light
Table of Show Bread Gods presence and sustenance
  • Hebrews 101. For the law having a shadow of
good things to come, and not the very image of
the things, can never with those sacrifices which
they offered year by year continually make the
    comers thereunto perfect.

82
Furnishings of the Tabernacle
  • Here are possible spiritual
    applications of the
    furniture
  • The ark of the covenant Ex. 2510-22
  • A box approx. 39 long X 23 wide high
  • Overlaid with pure gold.inside was placed the
tables of stone (Ex. 2516) A jar of manna (Ex.
16 33-34) and Aarons rod that budded (Nu.
    174-10)
  • On top was the mercy seat of pure gold 39 X
    23. Pure gold (Ex. 2517)
  • On either end were two cherubim of pure gold
facing each other with wing covering the mercy
    seat and their tips touching.
  • Here God promised to meet Israel. (Ex. 2518ff
    Nu. 789)
  • The H. Priest only entered here once a year.

83
Meaning of the Ark of the Covenant
  • The ark seems to have symbolized the throne of
    God
  • Ps. 801 thou that leadest Joseph like a flock
thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine
    forth.
  • Ps. 991 The Lord reigneth let the people
tremble he sitteth between the Cherubims

84
A symbol of Atonement for Sins
  • 1614. And he shall take of the blood of the
bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon
the mercy seat eastward and before the
mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with
    his finger seven times.
  • Lev. 1630. For on that day shall the priest
make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that
ye may be clean from all your sins before the
    Lord.
  • 1634. And this shall be an everlasting statute
unto you, to make an atonement for the children
of Israel for all their sins once a year. And
he did as the Lord commanded Moses.

85
But was formality enough?
What about Mercy/grace?
  • Hos. 6 6. For I desired mercy, and not
sacrifice and the knowledge of God more than
    burnt offerings.
  • Matt. 913. But go ye and learn what that
meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice
for I am not come to call the righteous, but
    sinners to repentance.
  • Matt. 12 7. But if ye had known what this
meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye
would not have condemned the guiltless.
  • Never worship as a mere ritual. The right
attitude of heart is indispensable to acceptable
    worship.

86
Jesus alone was the fulfillment of the true
meaning of the Ark of the Covenant
  • He is Gods covenant to man, his mercy, his
atonement, his acceptable sacrifice, his just
    requirement.
  • Rom. 83. For what the law could not do, in
that it was weak through the flesh, God sending
his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and
for sin, condemned sin in the flesh
  • 4. That the righteousness of the law might be
fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh,
    but after the Spirit.
  • 5. For they that are after the flesh do mind
the things of the flesh but they that are after
the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
  • 6. For to be carnally minded is death but to
be spiritually minded is life and peace.
  • Let our prayers rise from humility of heart
realizing that the atonement at the ark was but a
    shadow of Jesus to come.

87
The Table of Showbread
  • Instructions are found in Ex. 2523ff. The
construction in Ex. 3710ff. It was 3 feet long,
1-1/2 feet wide by 2-1/3 feet high overlaid with
    pure gold.
  • 12 loaves were set (6X6) upon the table with
dishes and incense holders (Le. 245dff)
  • Eaten every Sababth by Aaron sons.
  • New loaves and incense were placed there weekly.

88
Meaning of the Showbread
  • Not for form. A preparation for the coming
Messiah. As some of the manna from heaven was
placed in the ark for remembrance by future
generations, so the loaves were on the table
continually. It was called the bread of the
Presence (Ex. 164,33). God was ever caring and
providing for His people. He was always present
    (Dt. 32. Is. 4010-11, I Cor. 103).
  • Jesus was born in Bethlehem (house of bread)
significant of the heavenly bread. Jesus said he
was the bread of life. (John 635)

89
The Lampstand
  • The golden lampstand (not candlestick) was to be
    of pure gold (Ex. 2531ff).
  • It had a stem and six branches, three on each
side, making seven. The cups on each branch
burned with pure olive oil from evening til
morning. (Ex. 2720ff) They were cleaned each
morning and kept in immaculate condition.

90
Meaning of the Lampstand
  • It is obviously connected with light. There
meaning was far beyond formality. As the light
penetrated ever part of the holy place, so does
God. Jesus said that He (His teaching) is light
in the worlds darkness (Jn. 812) To receive
Jesus into the heart is to receive the love of
his teaching concerning what to do to be saved,
how to worship, and how to live a holy acceptable
    life.
  • Jesus said we are the light of the world
(reflective of the light of his teaching (Mt.
    514).
  • Light is a servant and never served, so are his
disciples. Never should the Christian life
    become a dull routine.
  • Mt. 516 Let your light so shine.

91
The Golden Altar of Incense
  • 1-1/2 feet square by 3 feet high.
  • Aaron was to burn incense each time he cleaned
    the lampstand (Ex. 307-8).
  • On the day of the atonement he was to sprinkle
blood on the horns of the table. (Ex.
    303,10).

92
The Meaning of the Altar of Incense
  • It seems to symbolize a communion with God
through prayer and daily holiness of life.
  • The Jews associated prayer with the altar of
    incense.
  • Amos 521. I hate, I despise your feast days,
and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.
  • Luke 110 And the whole multitude of the people
were praying without at the time of incense.
  • Rev. 84. And the smoke of the incense, which
came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up
before God out of the angel's hand.
  • Prayer is not a ritual to be said at set
intervals. It is a privilegethe heart communing
    with God in deep reverence

93
The Altar Ex. 271-8, 381-7
  • 7.5 feet square x 4.5 feet high
  • Made of acacia wood overlaid with bronze.
  • All utensils were bronze. Here the sacrifices
were burned . There were daily offerings as well
    as offering on special occasions.

94
The Meaning of the Altar of Sacrifice
  • The killings and blood cleansing offering were
done over and over for centuries. Without a deep
spiritual mind one can see how that the priests
could become bored, even disgusted. To the deep
spiritual mind who sought to penetrate the
reasons, it would become evident with an
increasing awareness of the principle of the
innocent being sacrificed for the guilty. This
should have been evident in the offering of Jesus
, and was to many like Paul (I Cor. 57)

95
The Great Tragedy
  • The Priests missed the spiritual implications of
the tabernacle and temple worship system. They
became mercenary with the sacrifices and turned
the temple into a den of thieves.
  • Christ was the sanctuary of God on earth, the
mercy, the altar atonement, light, life, bread,
and communion of God with men.
  • So sad, that many have apparently turned worship
into entertainment. For many the singing,
praying, the Lords supper, giving and preaching
seem to have become mechanical acts of ritualism

96
Disrespect for Worship as God Would Have it
Idolatry Emerges Read Exodus 32-34
  • Moses was forty days in the Mt. Receiving Gods
    Word.
  • Aaron bows to pressure from the people to make a
    golden calf.
  • Moses returns, in anger breaks the ten
    commandments,

97
  • All things pointed to the coming of Jesus, His
church, and to final salvation in heaven.

harvest were offered to God, then He should be
first in ones life because of great gratitude
    for His sustenance in life.
  • Jesus was the first fruits and Christians are the
latter harvest that follows. As Jesus offered
Himself to God, should we follow His example.

THE SABBATH SYSTEM
104
The Pyramidical Sabbatical system
  • There was the weekly Sabbath celebrated each 7th
day because God rested from creation on the 7th
    dayGen. 22-3 Ex. 1622-30 208-11
  • HOW WERE THE JEWS SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE WEEKLY
    SABBATH? WHY?
  • 1. 2 male lambs were sacrificed as burnt
offerings, along with cereal and drink offerings.
  • 1. No work was to be done.. They were to cook
sufficiently on the 6th day for the next. No
traveling was to be done (Ex. 1623-30).
  • 2. Penalty for breaking the Sabbath was death
    (Ex. 3115 Nu, 1532)
  • WHAT WERE THE JEWS SUPPOSED TO LEARN FROM THIS?

105
The New Moon Monthly Sabbath
  • 1. Offering of 2 young bulls
  • 2. One ram and 7 male lambs a year old without
    blemish.
  • 3. Flour, oil and wine were also offered
  • 4. A male goat was sacrificed as a sin offering.
  • All theses offering were in addition to the
    regular daily and Sabbath offerings.
  • Num. 2811-15

106
The Seventh Sabbatical Month
  • 1. At the beginning of the month trumpets were
blown signifying the beginning of a holy day
    (Lev. 2323-25 Nu. 291)
  • 2. One young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a
year old without blemish accompanied with cereal
offerings were offered as a pleasing odor to the
    Lord (Num. 292-6)
  • 3. According to the Jews observance of the New
Moon Sabbath was symbolic of surrender to the
Lord. This was called a day of gladness as
trumpets were blown over the burnt and peace
    offerings. (Num. 1010)
  • 4. What were they to do and learn from the
    monthly sabbath?
  • 4. The Jews gradually drifted from the spiritual
significance of the Sabbaths. Amos 84-6) Says
that they were glad when they were ovcer so they
    could sell grain.

107
The 7th or Sabbatical year
  • For additional emphasis God prescribed the
observance of a Sabbatic year for Israel (Ex.
    2310-11 Lev. 252-7) Deut. 151-18 3110-13).
  • In the seventh year the land was left unplowed,
unsown, and unharvested by the owner. Any crops
which germinated naturally were for the slaves to
gather and the animals to eat (Lev. 252-7)

108
Jubilee or 50th Year Sabbath
  • In order for Israel to reach a pinnacle height of
spiritual observance twice each century, God gave
the year of Jubilee (5oth). The land was to be
left unplowed and the people ceased from all
physical work (Lev. 258-34 2717-24 Num.
    364).
  • The year began on the annual Atonement Day (Lev.
    1629, 259) on the 10th day of Tishra (7th
month). It began with trumpet blowing (Lev.
    259) and with Jubilee (loud shouting). Since it
was preceded by a sabbatical year (49th), God
said if they were faithful He would provide an
abundant crop year in the 6th and 48th year (Lev.
    258) and with fruit for three years Lev. 2521).
  • All land was to be returned to the original
owner, and all indentured servants freed and
    debts forgiven (Lev. 2513-55).

109
Note the Accumulations of Sabbaths, special days
and years leading to the 50th year.
  • 1. Approx. 2,184 regular Sabbaths plus special
Sabbaths (feasts). All Sabbath days in the 7th
year and in the year of Jubilee were omitted
because the entire year was a Sabbath of
    cessation of laborious work.
  • 2. Each year the 7th months was observed as a
    Sabbatic month.
  • 3. The 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 35th, 42nd, and
    49th were Sabbatic years
  • 4. The 50th year followed the 49th which meant
two Sabbath years in a row twice per century were
to eb observed. God would provide for them (Lev.
    2519-22).

110
  • THE SPIRITUAL APPLICATION
  • The Sabbath, seventh month, Sabbatic year, and
Jubilee year all were joined in principle and
should have portrayed increasingly for the
Israelite the supremacy of the SPIRITUAL over the
PHYSICAL.Every seventh day, he was re minded in
cessation from labor that it was God ordained. As
God ceased from creation (Gen. 22-3), so man
ceased his daily work which was a means in
contemplation of the end eternal life. Because
of sin, the joy and blessings of God's original
creation were lost in toil, sweat, and labor. But
each Sabbath was a reminder that God would
eventually redeem man. Thus, every seven days he
should have appreciated anew God's pledge of
eternal blessing when man enters his True
Restfellowship with God apart from sin.

111
The Seventh month was inaugurated by the special
holy day and blowing of trumpets. It introduced
the month in which the annual atonement and feast
of the tabernacles was celebrated. It should have
reminded the rulers, priests and nation that God
had blessed them, through the year and had
providentially met their every need. Therefore,
with the harvest complete, they were prepared in
an attitude of thanksgiving and humility to seek
His mercy in atonement despite their sin and to
prepare as a joyous nation to dwell in booths.
In like manner, the Sabbatic year was to more
deeply impress upon the spiritual man that God
would provide throughout the year SPIRITUALLY as
He most certainly had PHYSICALLY. Thus, man's
sowing and reaping each year was not an end, but
simply a means until redemption was complete.
112
The cessation every seven years for a YEAR (not
just a day as on the Sabbath) could not help but
deepen insight into the mercy, grace and love of
God for man. Separated from material pursuits, he
could cultivate the spiritual by meditation and
thanksgiving. It foreshadowed an eternal rest
from the physical and simultaneously depicted
eternal spiritual service to His blessed
Lord. The Jubilee year climaxed God's covenant of
redemption. Although there is no record of
national reaction in the Bible to its observance,
it should have enabled the spiritual Israelite
to perceive the eventual eternal bliss with God.
After 48 years of weekly Sabbaths, interspersed
with 48 seventh months' introducing atonement and
the feast of the tabernacles, and six sabbatic
years, the 49th year as a seventh sabbatic year
was followed by the jubilee year.
113
Thus for two consecutive years every fifty years,
the Israelite should have been made deeply
conscious of the SPIRITUAL and how trivial and
inconsequential were the material means of life.
God completely provided for his every need during
the three yearsa period of gracethe two while
he was devoting himself WHOLLY TO HIS CREATOR,
and during the sowing and growing of a crop in
the 51st year (Lev. 2521). Such a life for the
period must have enabled the man of faith to draw
as close to God as possible on earth in realizing
the future glory of the heavenly realm. Also, the
return of land and the freeing of slaves should
have impressed indelibly upon the individual soul
the concept that all of the earth is a means to
the end of serving God TOTALLY, ABSOLUTELY AND
COMPLETELY.
114
All here was transitory, not eternal. It would
serve its purpose until salvation was fully
accomplished. When redemption was realized, the
land or property which he might have thought as
valuable was gone forever the service from his
fellow manno longer needed or wanted. ALL MEN
were to serve GOD WHO ALONE WAS THEIR MASTER. To
convince the doubter, who might withhold from the
needy because the jubilee was approaching that he
was not a master but a servant, the Lord said, "
To me the people of Israel are servants, they are
my servants whom I brought forth out of the land
of Egypt I am the Lord your God". (Lev. 2517,
51-55). What a marvelous provision by the Lord!
Therefore, two years of meditation, appreciation
and spiritual communion with God unhindered by
toil in the field, etc. should have made everyone
GOD CONSCIOUS and fervently desirous of eternal
life with God.
