Details about Quizzes
  • Quizzes account for 33 of your grade. You are
    given 20 points for mastering each quiz.

Taking a Quiz
  • First, read and study the material from the text.
  • Second, ask IA for quiz within first 10 minutes
    of class.
  • Third, proceed directly to testing area of room
    and take quiz.
  • Fourth, when finished give quiz to IA for scoring
    and return to seat.

Quiz Makeup Scoring
  • 12 multiple choice questions worth 1 pt. each.
  • 2 short answer questions worth 2 pts. each.
  • Total of 16 pts. possible
  • 16/16 Mastered
  • 13-15/16 Justify
  • 12/16 or less Retake

Justifying a quiz
  • You must justify if you score between 13 and 15
    on the quiz.
  • Your IA will tell you what topics you missed and
    give page numbers from the book.
  • You review those topics and re-do the questions
    you missed with your IA.

Retaking a quiz
  • You must retake a quiz if you score less than 13
    (miss more than 3).
  • Your IA will tell you the topics you missed and
    the page numbers you should re-study.
  • You retake the quiz during the next class period.

Details about Review Tests
  • There are three review tests. These account for
    35 of your grade.

Schedule for Review Tests
  • Review test 1 comes after you master units 1-3.
  • Review test 2 comes after you master units 4-6.
  • Review test 3 comes after you master units 7 and
    8.

Review Test Makeup Scoring
  • 30 multiple choice questions worth 2 pts. each.
  • Total of 60 points on each test
  • You must provide a blank sheet of paper to record
    your answers.
  • You may retake each review test once.

Review Test 1 Deadline
  • There is a deadline for taking Review Test 1. If
    you do not attempt test 1 by that deadline, you
    will lose 5 points.
  • Check the Daily Schedule for Deadlines

Final Exam
  • You will take the final after all other tests are
    completed. The final is worth 9 of your grade.

Final Exam Makeup
  • The final is comprehensive.
  • You take the final after youve completed review
    test 3.
  • The final has 48 multiple choice questions worth
    one point each.
  • You may retake the final once.
  • You must provide paper to record your answers.

Warning!!!
  • Since this course is based on mastery of the
    material, you must complete each of the unit
    quizzes, the review tests, and the final in
    order.
  • Therefore, be sure to allow enough time to
    complete each of the tests. For example, if you
    get to the end of the semester and only have 2
    classes left, and you havent mastered Unit 8,
    you will not be able to take the final! So,
    manage your time wisely!

Details about Speeches
  • You give three speeches. These and the
    corresponding paperwork account for 14 of your
    grade.

  • Speech 1-- informative
  • Speech 2-- informative/extemporaneous
  • Speech 3-- persuasive

Points for Speeches
  • Exceptional 16-20 pts.
  • Acceptable 11-15 pts.
  • Unacceptable 0-10 pts.

Notes on Speeches
  • You must re-give the speech if you receive an
    unacceptable rating.
  • You are encouraged to re-give speeches if you
    score less than 20.
  • All speeches may be re-done once.

Speech Paperwork
  • 3 outlines
  • 2 topic approval forms
  • You receive 5 points if you present all 3
    speeches, have all 3 outlines approved on time,
    and have 2 topic approvals approved on time.

Bonus Points
  • You can receive 3 bonus points IF you retake
    every review test, speech final (assuming you
    didnt get a perfect score the first time).
  • These are the only ways to increase borderline
    grades!!

Assignments for Friday
  • Comprehend chapters 1 and 7 in text
  • Begin work on Unit 1 of study guide
  • Complete course policy quiz in study guide (pg.
    107). You will be discussing it with your IA.
