Problem Statement Proposed Solution
5
Problem Statement
  • 4.000 women in Nepal die each year due to illegal
    abortions.
  • Worldwide, the MMR due to unsafe abortions is 13
but in Nepal this number raises to 50.
  • The Dhangadhi area has a population of 300.000,
with 50 of the population at reproductive age
    (15-45 yrs.).
  • Currently, family planning services do not exist
    in the villages surrounding Dhangadhi.

6
Proposed Solution
  • To assist the Government of Nepal in extending
the current family Planning infrastructure to the
    surrounding villages of Dhangadhi.
  • To efficiently distribute and educate about
    contraceptives methods.
  • To ultimately decrease unwanted pregnancies,
which will reduce unsafe abortions and Nepals
    MMR.

7
Agency Background
  • The Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN)
is the largest NGO in Nepal and the sole provider
of a full range of reproductive health services
as well as educational initiatives. FPAN
contributes 25 - 30 per cent of national family
    planning program effort.

8
Agency Background
  • The government works closely with FPAN and
supplies a large proportion of their
    contraceptives including Norplant and injectables.

9
Mission Statement
  • To promote the right of women and men to decide
freely the number and spacing of their children
and the right to the highest possible level of
