Introducing The Rainforest
  • A rainforest is a hot, thick jungle that gets a
lot of rain. A large number of plants and animals
    live there.

3
Describing the Rainforest
  • -The trees are very tall and come from different
    species.
  • You can rarely find two trees of the same
    species.
  • Most of the plants are really green, not
    permanent.
  • The branches of the trees are filled with vines
    and leaves.

Fact Alert
8
Interesting Fact
  • Q Why do they call them rainforests?
  • A Tropical means close to the equator. The
equator is an imaginary belt which circles the
earth and divides it into two halves. Near the
equator, the sun shines directly on the earth.
The areas directly above and below the equator
are called the tropics and are always warm and
    humid, much like summertime.

9
Rainforest Climates
  • In an average year in rainforest, the climate is
very humid because of all the rain, which is
about 250 cm. per year! The rainforest has lots
of rain because it is very hot and wet. This
climate is found close to the equator. That means
that there is more sunlight there than anywhere
    else! Awesome!
