Zambia Facts and figures
  • Population - 10.5 million
  • Life expectancy 38 years
  • Unemployment -90
  • Child mortality 20 of children in urban areas
    die before they reach 5 yrs, in rural areas it is
    33
  • In Livingstone, 35 of adults are registered as
    HIV positive. The true figure will be much higher
    due to social stigma and lack of awareness

Rainbow Africa is a Christian charity.  Its
primary aim is to bring help, care, education,
and development to people in the impoverished
areas of Africa, guided by the mandate of the
Christian faith.  Rainbow Africa is based in
Livingstone, Zambia with offices in Loughborough,
UK and St. Louis, USA.

Future plans
  • A daycare facility for children orphaned by
    AIDS/HIV
  • To extend education programme in the region
  • To extend the provision of free treatment for
    malaria, worms and bilharzia

Food aid started last year following severe
drought in Southern Zambia. There were some rains
during rainy season but not enough for the crops
- there is still hunger, so food distribution
continues.

Maramba Old Peoples Home
  • 32 old people live in this home which relies on
    goodwill from local churches and businesses for
    food and essentials
  • Rainbow regularly supplies food and other
    practical help
  • The Impact teams have helped with renovation of
    the very basic accommodation each year

Grannies Project
Currently, Rainbow provides food for 15 grannies
and 1 grandad who are caring for orphaned
grandchildren

  • 4 houses have been constructed or bought for
    those grannies who were homeless
  • Several of the grandchildren are sponsored for
    school

Rural Health mobile clinics
  • Health care is provided at 5 different locations
    outside Livingstone each week
  • People living close to these villages are visibly
    healthier and needing less treatment
  • Others travel long distances to get help,
    especially for children
  • The clinical officer and nurse are accompanied on
    each clinic visit by a church worker who will
    take a bible study or do some one to one
    evangelism/discipleship
