The G-IWorking Hard For You
Presidential Initiatives
  • Creation of the Student Presidential Group
  • President Jean-Louis Briaud commissioned a group
of 16 students in late 2008 to help better
identify how the Geo-Institute can serve its
    student members.
  • The groups first conference call yielded the
    following suggestions
  • Early exposure to the geotechnical field (in the
    undergraduate years) is critical
  • A conference exclusively for students should be
    created
  • An online research database should be created
  • The student geo-competition should be at the
level of the steel bridge competition and the
    concrete canoe competition
  • The group will meet here in Orlando to further
    discuss initiatives

30
The G-I Working Hard For You
Presidential Initiatives
  • Local group visits visits
  • President Briaud has begun an initiative to
travel to local sections and branches to foster
    local involvement within the G-I
