What is the Golden Gate Bridge?
  • The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge
located in San Francisco, California. It is 1.2
    miles long.
  • The Golden Gate is painted International Orange
to blend best with its natural surroundings and
be visible to ships at the same time. The bridge
is painted in an ongoing job. The paint also
protects the bridge from the salty air and water.

Building the Bridge
  • The first actual start on building the bridge was
on January 5, 1933. Everyone thought it was
impossible to build, but after a little over four
years, it was finished. The total cost to build
this magnificent bridge was about 35 million,
but surprisingly that was less than the expected
    budget.

4
Did you know
  • The Golden Gate Bridge almost wasnt built. No
one thought they could possibly build it, but a
man named Joseph Strauss was persistent and
patient. He pushed the many opposed groups to
follow through, so the bridge was made.
  • During the four years of building the Golden Gate
Bridge, eleven men were killed in construction
accidents. One died before the others, but the
rest all passed on February 17, 1937 while
    falling through a safety net.

5
The Bridge Today
  • Today, the Golden Gate Bridge is considered a
national monument. Many tourists come from all
    over to see its beauty.
  • Besides driving on the road, people are allowed
to walk, run, ride bikes, and just sight see on
    this awesome bridge.

Check this out!!!
  • Ive told you all about the Golden Gate Bridge,
but one thing I havent told you is why the
Golden Gate Bridge is called the Golden Gate
    Bridge.
  • The bridge is at the site of the entrance to the
San Francisco Bay and the Pacific ocean. It is
called the Golden Gate Straight, and so the
Golden Gate Bridge was named after it.
