  • Take students to museums or cultural events.
  • Cultural Speakers
  • Bring in speakers from various communities.

  • Show videos dealing with cultural differences.
  • Bring in Cultural Items
  • If you have access to items like clothing or
    musical instruments, bring them in and discuss
    them.
  • Holidays Around the World Event
  • In December, plan a day to discuss how others
    around the world celebrate their holidays. Try
    bringing in food from different cultures for
    students to sample.
  • Plays/Skits/Role-Play
  • Have students act out different interactions with
    other cultures and discuss the stereotypes.

Cultural Diversity Bingo
  • Students are given a Bingo Sheet.
  • They have to interact with other students to have
    them sign off on their Bingo Squares.
  • The same person can not sign the Bingo Sheet
    twice (unless you have a small class).
  • Review some of the meanings to the Bingo Squares
    after someone has gotten Bingo.
  • Have prizes.

Campus Charades
  • How to play
  • Break class into two groups.
  • Give 7 people in each group one charade card.
  • The cards all have college related topics.
  • Each group gets 2 minutes to guess their topic,
    if they cant guess it then the other group gets
    a chance to steal the point.
  • If there is a tie, there can be a lightening
    round with a difficult topic.
  • Some sample topics include

  • Have students answer a variety of questions
    about you and the instructor.
  • These questions will help the students get to
    know you.

Scavenger Hunt
  • Familiarize students with the campus by having
    them hunt for various campus services.
  • Divide students into small groups and give them a
    list of places you want them to visit.
  • Have someone from each department sign off on the
    list.
  • The first group back wins.

  • Have mandatory individual meetings with all new
    freshman.
  • Get to know students more personally.
  • Provide candy treats.
  • Use note-cards for a student tickler file.

  • Use tapes for reading and for class and lecture
    notes.
  • Learn by interviewing or by participating in
    discussions.
  • Have test questions or directions read aloud or
    put on tape.
  • Tactile Learners
  • Engage in experiential learning (lab work or
    role-playing)
  • Take frequent study breaks.
  • Trace letters and words to learn spelling and
    remember facts.
  • Use a computer to reinforce learning through
