Mission Statement
  • The mission of Oceanside Middle School is to
    create a safe and challenging learning
    environment in which the entire school community
    addresses the unique needs of the early
    adolescent and inspires each individual to
    develop academic, social, and emotional
    competence and confidence in order to become
    productive citizens in our global society.

  • Students will take state assessments in all major
    subject areas in January, February, March, May,
    and June.
  • Students taking Italian will take the Proficiency
    Exam in June.
  • Students will take the Integrated Algebra Regents
    Exam in June.
  • Students in our accelerated science program will
    take the Living Environment Regents Exam in June.

Student Schedule10 Day Cycle
  • Students follow a rotating schedule.
  • Odd/Even Days Intervention, Enrichment Core,
    Music, etc.
  • All students receive a copy of their schedule,
    with locker assignment, in August in our annual
    summer mailing.

Clubs and Sports
  • Over 20 clubs offered to students on a yearly
    basis. Our annual Club Fair will be held in
    September.
  • Our sports program continues to thrive each year.
    For some teams, student interest exceeds our
    capacity. In these cases, some cuts are
    necessary to preserve the safety and integrity of
    the program.
  • Intramural Program begun this year, allows
    students to experience the physical activity and
    friendly competition of sport, even if their
    skills were not sufficient to place them on an
    athletic team. Intramurals meet each day, during
    each sport season, from 230 310.
  • Academic Study Center for students on our
    sports teams, they will have the opportunity to
    get a jump start on their homework assignments
    prior to their beginning practice/games. This
    program is supervised by middle school teachers
    and coaches.

  • 6th grade teachers, in the coming weeks, will
    recommend students they have seen demonstrate
    strength and interest in the areas in which
    Enrichment Core classes are offered.

Science Research
  • Science Research is designed to provide
    enrichment activities that teach research skills
    in a variety of science disciplines.
  • Product The highlight of the 8th grade program
    is the school Science Fair. This project not
    only prepares students for the high school
    program, but also provides an opportunity to
    represent our middle school in outside
    competitions.

Math Research
  • This program is for students who have an
    identified ability or strong interest in the area
    of mathematics. Students will learn techniques
    in math that facilitate research and
    problem-solving skills not found in the standard
    curriculum.
  • Product Students will prepare projects for the
    middle school Math Fair and possibly enter
    summary reports of their work and research to
    various outside mathematics fairs and
    competitions.

Art Enrichment
  • This program is designed for students with
    exceptional talent and interest in art. Students
    will be exposed to various media and in-depth art
    experiences beyond the scope of the 7th and 8th
    grade standard art curriculum.
  • Product Students create projects that are
    displayed in our annual 9M Art Enrichment
    Showcase. Student work will also be considered
    for entry into art competitions and for display
    in our district arts festival.

Music Theory
  • This is a two year program that explores the
    elements and fundamental structures of music.
  • Product Students compose, notate, and record
    their own compositions in our brand new music
    theory computer lab. Musical selections are
    shared at our annual 9M Music Theory Showcase.

Junior Great Books
  • This is an inquiry-based program that provides
    students with an opportunity to interact with
    thought-provoking literature as they further
    develop their reading, writing, and oral
    communication skills.
  • Product Students experience an annual 9M Book
    Talk, highlighting one of the course reading
    selections. Staff members and parents are
    invited to participate in this wonderful event.

Social Science Research8th Grade Only
  • Students select topics of study that will be
    the basis of social science research projects.
    These projects focus on a social challenge or
    problem that requires creative solutions to
    improve the quality of life for those who live in
    our society.
