Local Context
  • Since 1 April 2006 Nottingham City Safeguarding
    Children Board has completed a total of seven
    Serious Case Reviews, and a further review was
    commissioned in January 2009, in accordance with
    Chapter 8 of Working Together to Safeguard
    Children, HM Gov 2006.

Legal Context
  • LAs should.. Monitor the compliance of
    maintained schools with this guidance, in
    particular in regard to the existence and
    operation of appropriate policies and procedures,
    and the training of staff, including the senior
    person with designated responsibility for child
    protection. Bring any deficiencies to the
    attention of the governing body of the school and
    advise the action needed to remedy them.

Recording Practice
  • Each pupil on roll at the school should have a
    curricular record and this should be updated
    annually this record should include
  • Annual Attendance Certificate
  • Annual Report covering all aspects of the
    curriculum, and relevant pastoral/welfare aspects
    of childs presentation in school
  • Correspondence between the parent and school and
    vice versa
  • Copies of accident reports, behaviour reports,
    exclusions, referrals for non-attendance etc
  • SATS results at each Key Stage
  • Internal Concern Forms (except where the content
    is confidential)
  • Confidential Pupil Files should be established
    where
  • A referral has been made to an external agency
    for a service
  • Safeguarding/Child Protection concerns exist
    and/or the child is subject to a Child Protection
    Plan or Care Plan
  • The child is the subject of a CAF

Recording Practice Audit
  • 4 secondary schools
  • 9 primary schools
  • 2 special schools
  • Audits will take place between 08.06 10.07.2009

Information Sharing
  • When pupils moves schools either a fixed
    transition points or part way through an academic
    year it is crucial that the childs curricular
    record, SEN record and confidential record
    transfers to the new school.
  • The schools Safeguarding and Child Protection
    Policy should reflect how the transfer of pupil
    files will be managed and consideration should be
    given to the storage of pupil records where the
    details of the new school are not known.

Practice Guidance
  • This document was launched on 1 April 2009 and
    has been circulated electronically to Head
    Teachers. It should be available to all school
    staff for reference purposes and a copy should be
    made available to the Safeguarding Governor.
