innovation and combating roots and consequences
of addiction
- Dicussion points for WS prepared by
- Zdenka Kovac,M.Sc.
- Senior Lecturer GEA College of Entrepreneurship
- CLUB HEALTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
- Piran, 21st September 2006
2- Shortly about GEA College
- First private based,
- under public concession, educational Institute on
entrepreneurship in CEI
3- GEA College Mission
- To assist development of creative and
entrepreneurial spirit among individuals, groups,
communities and to develop competencies for
successfull enterprising! - To assist development of entrepreneurial culture
in all its aspects! Culture which to constantly
innovate to solve different problems in its
social and economic development!
4- How this is linked to problem of growing
addiction culture?
5- Lets try to think not about external indicators
or consequences of the problem, lets try to look
for reasons (roots) of the problem! - Which common features of different groups of
addicted and environments where they are living
one could identify?
6Some sources of addiction
- Here some
- Social environment
- Alienated culture
- Lack of trust
- Destroyed or too one-sided values and principles
- Different types of violence in primary family
- To rigid school system
- Lack of positive challenges for youth
7Some sources of addiction
- Personal
- Lack of values
- Lack of self-esteem
- Lack of feeling of acceptance
- Lack of self-confidence
- Lack of motivation
- Lack of positive challenges
8Have been so far real reasons for addiction
tackled enough?
- In order to cure real roots of addiction
oriented society and individuals therefore to our
opinion, not only classic treatments are enough,
but there is an emergency need for social
innovation!
9Cross-science and multilevel cross-sectoral
cooperation needed in looking for significant
social-economic improvements!
- On community level to
- Building culture of partnership, human
solidarity, inter-dependence and trust - Building the understanding of inter-dependency of
economic and social aspects for long term
sustainable development of society - For individuals to ensure
- Access to permanent building skills and
knowledge for all and in particular for people
with different abilities, - Access to assistance in personal development, and
improving self-esteem, self-respect and
self-reliance - Assistance in improving workmanship,
- Assistance in building sustainable community and
feeling of acceptance - Assistance in building economically sustainable
enterprises with specific social focus
10WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A NEED FOR SOCIAL
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS HEALING CONCEPT !
- Globally looking there are numerous good
practices which confirm the statement i.e.
Social cooperatives, Healing communities - There are even more numerous self-reliable
communities.. like AA and similar, which
undertaken first step, but would need further
steps to enable participants to grow further,
to combine personal development, community
development, with skills development and ability
to create economic activities ( profit or non for
profit based), which only could in reality ensure
new sustainable solutions to growing problems! - THIS COULD BE DONE ONLY IF TARGETED GROUPS ARE
ENABLED TO BECOME CO-CREATORS OF NEW SLUTIONS AND
IF NEW SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPED!
11- Why specific research and education needed?
12Bridging the science gap developing socionomy
- To overcome gaps of so far too parallel-rather
closed sciences, such as economy, sociology,
psychology and health! - Through integration to search for more holistic,
more innovative solutions to the growing problems!
13New Education to stimulate Social
Entrepreneurship and creating new sustainable
opportunities for addicted
- To look for new combinations of curricula to
overcome the gap - To train trainers and educators integrators,
which to understand holistic nature of social
entrepreneurship - To increase awareness and improve specific
missing skills and competences of all actors
needed to be integrated into social innovation - To build advocacy skills to positively
influence Policy makers - To develop new organizational forms- combination
of work and training, which to better integrate
various target groups with different abilities
and needs
14New type of trainers and educators
- To bring new added value in education new type of
Lecturers needed - They MUST COME from professionals with
backgrounds ,
15To stimulate social innovation
- Educators to transfer specific knowledge to
external stakeholders -the driving engines of the
Social Innovation, - Educators to transfer specific missing
knowledge, tools and techniques to existing
social service providers who have the role to
adapt and apply to generate better high social
impact services/income with lower waste of
resources and more sustainable results
16To improve specific skills and competences
- Social Entrepreneurship applies and adapt
tools and techniques of modern entrepreneurial
and management sciences in provision of social
services and generating social enterprises - If to respond to real needs of customers
(targeted groups) - they should become market
based (reflected innovative responds to real
customer needs), they should apply all
entrepreneurial and management tools to ensure
efficiency and efficacy - the social side refers to the way of
delivering of services and the redistribution of
the ethic profit and not to lower efficacy and
efficiency in generating of the delivering
process - managerial racio to be improved with the hart
and social orientatition, not the opposite,
like practice many times so far..
17To advocate Policy makers
- The research which a part of social impacts
will take into account long-term economic
impacts, research which social service costs
will present as social investments to
successfully advocate policy makers - the disseminations of long term positive
economic and social impacts, positive impacts on
welfare and State Budget problems by applying
social innovations in terms of new tools and
techniques and organizations, given by Social
Entrepreneurship Concept is needed - the policy makers to become active partners of
social entrepreneurs in the process of boosting
up Social Entrepreneurship and thus supporting
the Social Change
18To educate and skill-up next generations
- When system is implemented, the new generations,
the ones at higher risk of drug and alchol abuse,
but usually most sensitive to social related
issues, will be additionally educated and
trained, as next grounds for future development
of Social Entrepreneurship as a way out of
growing problem - It is impressive how high interest for new
topic expressed by young generations which
through school systems introduced with new
concepts - Italy and some other countries with the amazing
growth of such type of activities and young
people involved through so called small Social
Cooperatives is one of the good examples which
in the future with a broaden international
cooperation could be spread as a new healing
tool to many problems linked to addiction
19To spread the spirit and competences
- .as young generations tend to imitate themselves
more then adults, those seeds would grow
faster if already succefull groups would be
stimulated to spread ideas and competences to
other environments - This is one of the idea behind creating EU
Leonardo initiative leaded by GEA College and
with eminent partners such as CID-University of
Bologna, Liverpool John Moores University (UK)
and Lod University (Poland)
20Social innovation through new networking among
classic profit based enterprises and social
enterprises
- When stimulated, the socio-economic system
develops new organizational forms to increase
efficiency and efficacy by networking and
synergy - the Gruppo Cooperativo Paritetico (ITA) (or
Social Holding), is the most advanced example
of formalized social organizational form where
social enterprises, cooperatives, commercial
enterprises and public/private institutions
related to different abilities groups, are part
of the same Social Holding, - even if different legislations, profits o non
profit generation and redistribution, labour
legislation and so forth live together, but all
member oriented to transfer high social impact - THE BEST EXAMPLE OF HOW NEW EU STANDARDS
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY COULD BECOME
REALITY!!
21- What is the difference between education on
- Entrepreneurship
- and on
- Social Entrepreneurship?
22Which differences?
- Purposes, not tools and techniques
-
Those are similar - Benefits, not efficiency and efficacy
- Those are similar
- Stakeholders, not skills and competences
-
Those are similar - Methodology, not topics and approaches
-
Those are similar
23Where are the differences?
- Purposes to transfer modern knowledge, tools
and techniques, to fill the social and human gap
generated by modern economies thus not
neglecting economic laws - to ensure long term sustainability by putting
the Human at the Centre of the System, not the
high Capital-gains - to ensure corporate social responsibility and
thus create wellbeing society for a difference
welfare state
24- Benefits to increase quality and quantity of
opportunities for competence bulding and work
for people with different abilities, not
neglecting basic market economy principles,
efficiency and efficacy in social enterprising.
25- Developing Stakeholders instead Shareholders
communities all the People, all the Civil
Society, because everyone is affected directly or
indirectly by the social-economic environments
discrepancies and everyone can sooner or later
became part of disadvantaged group, pushed at
the edges of mainstream
26- Methodology strongly focused on combining cold
tools and techniques to improve efficiency and
efficacy with warm human values, environmental
care and human rights personal development
growth, social capital growth, etc. - to adapt those tools and techniques to specific
Country/Region/Ethnic Group characteristics
(social structure, economic structure,
environment, demographic structure, geography.)
27- THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION AND I HOPE THAT ABOVE
STATEMENT CHALLENGED YOUR CREATIVE POTENTIAL
ENOUGH TO STIMULATE FURTHER ACTIVE DISCUISSION!
