Title: Organizing and Graphing Data

1
Organizing and GraphingData
2
Data Tables (organize data)
  • To make a good data table do the following
  • 1. use a descriptive title (also do this for a
    graph)
  • 2. use words to describe what measurements were
    collected
  • 3. use units to describe how the data was
    measured (put this in parentheses)
  • 4. collected data in ordered pairs
  • 5. make it neat!

4
Graphing Data (analyze and interpret data)
  • X-axis the horizontal axis this is where the
    independent variable is placed.
  • Y-axis the vertical axis this where the
    dependent variable is placed.
  • (WE USE LINE GRAPHS IN PHYSICAL SCIENCE)

5
Labeling the axes
  • For both the x and y axis you must do the
    following
  • Use a word or words to describe the data on each
    axis.
  • Write the units the data was measured in on each
    axis. Put this in parentheses.
  • Number the axes with even numbered intervals. The
x-axis intervals DO NOT have to match the y-axis
    intervals.

6
Best Fit Graph
  • Shows an average of data and allows you to
    estimate data.
  • Two ways to estimate
  • Interpolate- estimate data WITHIN plotted points.
  • Extrapolate estimate data OUTSIDE plotted points
