  • SIC was updated every 10-15 years

  • Incorporates industries from Canada, Mexico and
    the United States.

Decennial Census Information
  • Census information is collected in two ways
  • Short form questions which inquire about age,
    sex, race, relationship, marital status (known as
    100 questions because they are asked of
    everybody)
  • Long form questions ask about education,
    employment, income, homeowner costs, etc. in
    addition to the 100 questions (collected from a
    sample of households)

  • Provides up-to-date sampling of American
    communities.
  • It began in 1996 with 4 communities
  • 2003 - data for cities and counties available
  • 2004 - data for areas or populations of 65,000 or
    more
  • By 2008 data will be available for populations of
    less than 15,000
