The numbering of the TRD detector is based on
the conventions given in the following document
ALICE-INT-2003-38 Definition of the ALICE
Coordinate System (available via

The following coordinate system definition is
used in ALICE
  • x towards LHC center (horizontal)
  • y vertical, upwards
  • z parallel to beam direction,
  • away from myon arm
