University Background
  • Texas AM University-Corpus Christi is located on
    its own 240 acre island. It was founded in 1947
    as a Baptist university.
  • Fall 2005 Enrollment 8,471

Evolution of COB Advising Center
  • The University became a four-year institution in
    1994 and the demand for advising services
    steadily increased.
  • COB had only one professional advisor for
    approximately 750 undergraduate business
    students.
  • Faculty served as advisors primarily for freshman
    students.
  • The College of Business achieved
    AACSB-International accreditation status in 1999.

  • The new advising model was implemented in 2002 in
    response to Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction
    Survey.

  • An advising fee was instituted university wide in
    2002 to fund new professional advising positions
    including two new COB advisors.
  • Currently the COB has a total of 1,322
    undergraduate students.
  • The COB Advising Center consists of three
    professional advisors serving all declared
    undergraduate business students.
  • Faculty act as mentors to all students.

Mission of the COB Advising Center
  • The mission of the College of Business Academic
    Advising Center is to facilitate the scholastic
    progress of undergraduate business students
    towards their graduation and to assist in their
    transition into professional careers and/or
    graduate studies.

Goals/Objectives of COB Advising Program
  • Assist in the recruitment of qualified students.

  • Provide information regarding degree
    requirements, college and University policies.
  • Undertake a pro-active approach to enhance the
    retention of academically at-risk business
    students.
  • Assist business students in their course
    scheduling to meet prerequisites and graduation
    requirements.
  • Support the COB in the management of the Student
    Code of Ethics and the Assurance of Learning
    programs.
  • Serve as a liaison with University offices that
    provide services to students.
  • Refer students to COB faculty mentors, the
    internship coordinator, the director of graduate
    programs, and/ or the Universitys Career
    Services Office.
