Removal of Airborne Bacteria by Photocatalyst
  • Name Amy Van
  • Level Senior
  • Number of Semesters Participated 1 semester
  • Date of Submission December 12, 2003
  • Advisor Dr. Stefanakos
  • Department Electrical Engineering

2
Introduction
  • Titanium dioxide as photocatalyst
  • Semiconductor
  • Biologically and chemically inert
  • Very photoactive

3
Introduction
  • Band gap 3.2 eV
  • Activated in UV light 380 nm
  • Electrons in valence band excited and injected in
    conduction band
  • Produced holes in valence band
  • Holes have highly reactive oxidation and
    reduction potential
  • Catalytic reactions on the surface of the
    photocatalyst.
