Technology in Our Lives
  • Think of electricity or the automobile. They
roused enormous hopes and disappointed many
people, then more quietly transformed just about
everything. The same is true of the technology
    revolution (evolution) now underway.
  • --John Benditt, MITs Technology Review

6th Grade Parent, April 03
  • Bonnie -
  • I meant to send you an email right after we met
in Springfield regarding the Brainy Matters
project my son worked on. He learned a lot from
the experience but what I found most interesting
is that he now uses a multitude of WEB based
resources for long term assignments. He now has
developed better skills for research and
investigates facts and ideas in more depth. I
think that this is because of the success and
positive (ie. 'fun') experience he had with you
    and your team.
  • Well done.

Arts Integration
  • There is a growing body of evidence that supports
the power and value of the arts in education. But
we should also look at the contributions of the
arts to school reform. The arts-integrated school
could advance the effort to raise the standards,
expectations, and levels of performance of our
students. Indeed, education in and through the
arts may be one of the best ways to make progress
toward the national education goals and other,
    more sophisticated goals of reformers.

R. CRAIG SAUTTER teaches at the School for New
Learning at DePaul University
59
Project Benefits
  • Hayt staff students form partnership with Fine
    Arts professionals
  • Information, ideas, and resources can be pooled
  • The Arts are great motivators in the instruction
    of students
  • Students received one-on-one educational help
    beyond the school day
  • Students were able to reflect upon themselves
    through art and poetry

60
Benefits of the Collaboratory
  • Students are engaged and motivated to learn when
    using Collaboratory tools
  • Projects activities in the Collaboratory are
    linked to ILS
  • A study has shown the Collaboratory is a best
practice for improving K-12 education through
    technology integration and teacher collaboration

61
Value-added benefits of using the Internet for
instruction
  • Using the Internet to create a learning
    environment allows students, their peers,
teachers and coaches to collaborate and gives
them opportunities to communicate and learn
    together.
  • Walls and clocks no longer define the space and
moment in which learning takes place.
