Environmental Professional Intern
  • Entry-level certification for students and
    environmental professionals beginning their
    careers (lt5 years of experience)
  • A first step toward QEP certification

Environmental Professional Intern
  • Available to students and recent graduates
  • physical, earth, or natural sciences
    engineering mathematics
  • Must pass Part I of the QEP exam (General
    Environmental Science)

  • Broad-based, multi-disciplinary
  • Available to practitioners in many environmental
    fields
  • Candidates judged on
  • Education and level of experience
  • Body of knowledge
  • Familiarity with standards of practice
  • Understanding of professional ethics

QEP Certification Requirements
  • A baccalaureate or graduate degree in
    physical, earth or natural sciences, engineering,
    or mathematics
  • At least five years of professional experience
  • References
  • Successful completion of exam the body of
    knowledge can be viewed on the IPEP web site at
    http//www.ipep.org

QEP Certification Requirements
  • Written Exam Applicants must pass Part I
    (General Environmental Science) and Part II in
    one of the four specific practice area exams.
  • Air Quality
  • Water Quality
  • Waste Management
  • Environmental Science, Management Policy

QEP Certification Requirements
  • Senior environmental professionals with 15 or
    more years of experience may take an oral exam
  • Similar to a thesis defense
  • Administered by three peers who are QEPs
  • Recertification required on a five-year cycle
    requires continuing education and involvement in
    the field

Application Process
  • Download application from IPEP website
    www.ipep.org
  • Submit written application to IPEP including
    three references, application fee, transcripts
    and/or diplomas.
  • Applications are sent to the admissions committee
    for scrutiny.

Application Process
  • Applicants will be notified by the IPEP office of
    the decision of the admissions committee.
  • If accepted, applicants are assigned a regional
    coordinator in their area who directs the testing
    process.
  • Once tested, notification of results will take
    approximately 4-6 weeks.

Recertification
  • QEP recertification is evidence of a process of
    continuing professional development and
    contributions and service to the profession and
    community
  • All QEPs must apply for recertification every
    five years.

Recertification
  • Recertification is based upon a "Continued
    Professional Development Qualification" rating
    system of professional development hours (PDH)
    granted for activities including
  • Ongoing professional service in the environmental
    profession
  • Membership and active participation in
    professional societies or organizations
  • Publication in journals
  • Participation in technical meetings, professional
    seminars and/or short courses, teaching of
    academic courses as an adjunct professor
  • Certification in other areas related to the
    environmental field
