Football History

• Football came from England, it was a mix of rugby
  and soccer.
• Professional Football in America started in 1895,
  soon after the colleges started playing.
• Then in the 1922 the league was called the NFL.

• The NFL consisted of only 10 teams, from
  1946-1949, then gradually grew more.
• By 1970 there were two divisions the AFL and NFL.
  
• NFL had 16 teams and the AFL had 10 teams
• Then in 1993 the NFL consisted of 30 teams and
  only 2 more teams have joined since then.

Baseball History

• Baseball is known throughout America as the
  National Pastime.
• The inventor of baseball was Alexander Joy
  Cartwright who lived in Cooperstown New York.
• In the early 1900s-1920 baseball was known as
  Dead Ball because they would use the same ball
  throughout the entire game.
• In 1920 the Boston Red Sox sent the greatest
  player ever to play Babe Ruth to the Yankees for
  125,000.

• Baseball has gone through many changes over the
  years.
• through1946-1960 baseball changed from basic
  hitting to a more powerful offense like home
  runs, and these were the years that they allowed
  African Americans to play.
• From 61-79 baseball pitchers started to throw
  pitches like curveball and change ups to fake the
  batters out.
• Then from 80-present is when records started to
  break like home run, stolen bases and most
  consecutive games played.

Basketball History

• The game was invented in Springfield,
  Massachusetts.
• The man who created this game is Dr. James
  Naismith
• He invented the first thirteen rules of the game.
• It used to be with nine people on each side.
• The first ever game was to be played on Dec. 21,
  1890.

• The first NBA game was played on Nov. 1, 1946
• The New York Knickerbockers defeated the Toronto
  Huskies 68-66.
• Both teams were part of the Basketball
  Association of America which is now the NBA.
• The NBA now has 30 teams in 29 different cities
  across America.

Hockey History

• The game originated from Ireland and was called
  Hurley.
• The NHL was created in 1917 in Canada and
  consisted of 5 teams.
• The NHL came to America in around 1926.
• There are six teams called the Original Six
  because they were the six teams to stay in the
  league the longest.

• In 1967 the NHL added six new teams.
• Then by 1970 the NHL had a total of 14 teams.
• The NHL started to get really big by 1972-2000
  they have added 15 teams across America.
• Now the NHL holds 28 teams.

• Hockey is the least popular of the two
• Its TV rating have been under 10.0 since the
  strike in 2004
• The last Stanley Cup was 0.8 which is horrible.

• Basketball is more popular of the two.
• Since 1982-present no basketball finals have had
  under a 10.0 rating
• The 10.0 rating means that over 3 quarters of a
  million people are watching it
