Library Services (that might actually interest
you)
  • New Movies!
  • The library gets new DVDs the same day they come
    out in video stores.
  • ANDtheyre free to rent.
  • This is why there is usually a waiting list for
    new releases.
  • So, if there is something you want to get, just
put your name on the list.
  • Well see how to do that later on.
  • New Music!
  • Again, the library does try to keep on top of
    things.
  • HCDPL is part of a consortium of over 100
libraries, and we all share materials.
  • So, chances are somebody has the CD you want, all
you have to do is request to have it sent to your
    closest branch. For free.
  • Oh, and if the HCDPL owns a copy, HCDPL users get
it first, no matter how long the line is.

Things to read
  • As the Teen Services Specialist, its my job to
find the books you want to read.
  • This includes graphic novels, manga, horror,
scifi, mysteries, fantasy, and adult books.
  • I take requests, too. If there is something you
want, let me know. I can probably find it.
  • The library also has an extensive magazine
    collection.
  • There are teen specific mags, as well as most
    of the major adult magazines.
  • You can check out magazines just like you would
    check out books.
  • Again, you can REQUEST something if we dont have
it on the shelf. Its easy

Jumper, Reflex, and Griffins Storyby Steven
GouldThe theme of Steven Goulds Jumper is,
quite literally, escape. The first half of Jumper
has a charm and bounce that carry the reader past
the implausibilities inherent in the
premiseimagine a Holden Caulfield with the power
of life or death over the jerks and phonies.
--The New York Times Book Review
Jumper was originally published in 1992. It made
the ALAs Top 100 banned books list. Main
character is Davey, played by Hayden Christiansen
in the upcoming movie. Reflex is the sequel to
Jumper. Jumper Griffins Story is the story of
the movies other big character, Griffin. The
movie Jumper hits theatres Feb. 14th. and Samuel
L. Jackson. Also a video game

  • AT THE LIBRARY
  • Ask someone behind a desk to put in the request
    for you.

So what do people DO there?
  • Every month, I have at least one event a week.

  • Anyone between the ages of 12 and 18 is welcome
to come to any or all of the events
  • Monday Night Movies
  • we watch a movie on the big screen, hang out,
    talk and eat popcorn.
  • Game Nights
  • Sometimes we hook an Xbox or PS2 up to the big
screen, play games on the laptops, etc. Other
times, well have a theme night (last month was

  • Activity Nights
  • This month were making candy, next month were
making pins (Ive got a button-maker!) Something
    different all the time.

It may seem a long time from now but
  • Summer Reading programs at the Library!
  • 6 weeks long (from June 9th July 18th)
  • As always, there will be prizes for reading
  • and turning in short opinion cards
  • about the books you read.
  • But as far as activities go.
  • 3 different sections this year 2 weeks each.

    display your artwork
  • -week 2- Music Recording Videos Make your own

  • For each section, a college student in that field
will come to visit and talk about their classes,
and what you can DO in each of these areas. DO
ANYTHING, BE ANYTHING is the theme.

10
Now, lets talk about what you want.
  • What can the library
  • do for you?

(This is when you start throwing out great ideas,
and Jess starts scribbling down notes so she can
steal them.)
