1
TRD ROC StatusLeak Fixing and General Production
  • TRD Status Meeting
  • 12.03.2008
  • Institute for Nuclear Physics, Darmstadt

2
Underpressure Leak Tests
  • Test procedure established at every production
    site.
  • of successfully average
  • fixed and tested chambers leak
    conductance l/h
  • Bucharest 4 3.2
  • Heidelberg 1 ?
  • Frankfurt 9 1.9
  • Dubna 6 0.8
  • GSI 111 (incl. SM5) 2.04
  • Total to date done 131 1.99
  • additionally at CERN 10 (SM4)
    5

SM5 was fixed at GSI, resulting in an overall
added leak conductance of 49.5 l/h
3
What is left to do
  • SM3 (30 ch, CERN) 50 are currently
    traveling to GSI
  • GSI 43 in the queue after SM3
  • Frankfurt 50 still in debate
  • Bucharest 21 in the queue, delivery in May
  • Heidelberg 13 in the queue
  • Münster 3 integration spares, should be fixed
    in Münster
  • Dubna 15 delivery planned in June
  • SM1 SM2 60 located in space frame
  • SM4 20 all have been treated, need testing
  • Sum 225

4
Priorities
  • Highest Fix and reassemble SM3 and SM4,
assemble SM5 for installation before April
    25th
  • (Kens talk)
  • Second Keep constant supply of fixed and tested
chambers for further SM assembly (GSI,
Frankfurt), ch. for SM6 are OK
  • Third Fix remaining chambers at production sites
    before delivery to GSI
  • Fourth Integrate under-pressure leak test into
    final test procedures, replacing previous
    leak test.
  • Do not deliver unfixed/ non-tested chambers!
  • X.5th Fix and reassemble SM1 and SM2 as soon as
    they may be un-mounted

5
Parts and Materials to Finalize Ch. Production
  • Padplanes
  • Last fill-in orders and claims for reclamation
have been sent out to Optiprint
  • Backpanels
  • Last fill-in orders to complete production have
    been initiated
  • Radiators
  • Need to collect all superfluous and damaged
radiators to recover material for the last
fill-in production at Münster. Please check at
    your site!
  • Field-cages
  • Some 10 field cage pcb sets are missing, could
improvise refurbishing other sizes or order new

Production Status
448 out of 540 15 (spares) are in production,
an overall of 81
Extrapolation (555 448) / (3,21 ch/week) 33
i.e. beginning Nov. 2008
7
TRD Chamber Production
Target !
August 2008
8
TRD ROC Momentary Production Rates
Observed History and Future Demand
Needed Rates!
9
Individual Issues at Production Sites
  • Bucharest is stalled, waiting for material
  • Dubna received material to pick up on 22 L2C1
chambers only very recently. Dubna targets to
finish production end of November 2008!
  • Frankfurt just reached their average again,
production will not be finished until December
    2008!
  • GSI was stalled on testing in order to realize
leak tests but kept production rate up
  • Heidelberg stalled on testing to set up
    underpressure leak-test-stand but kept chamber
production up as well. August 2008 will
    nevertheless be very ambitious!

10
Summary
  • We see land in leak fixing but a lot of carefully
    instructed personal is needed
  • Four channel leak test stand with alternated
Oxygen sensor proved very helpful at GSI
  • We should be able to prepare SM3, SM4 and SM5 for
    insertion before April 25th.
  • Chamber production is running in spite of the
additional work load for fixing and testing.
  • Nevertheless, the August 1st deadline for
finishing chamber production has by now become
    unrealistic.
