the seven lamps give light in front of the

6
Toward the Face
  • The phrase el-mul peney
    in Hebrew
  • literally means to/toward (el) front (mul) face
    (peney).
  • The rabbinic sages have understood this to mean
that the lights of the Menorah faced toward the
center stem, concentrating all the light toward
    the center.
  • They said that the right side symbolizes
spiritual pursuits, while the left side temporal
matters. Thus, the Torah teaches that all
activities should be directed toward Yahs face,
    toward His service.
  • This aligns with the NT teaching Well, whatever
you do, whether it's eating or drinking or
anything else, do it all so as to bring glory to
God. (1 Cor 1031, Complete Jewish Bible) as
well as the idea of fixing our eyes on Yeshua,
the author and finisher of our faith (Heb 122).

7
Chanukah in the Wilderness
  • This portion of Scripture is read in the
synogogue on the last day of Chanukah.
  • Early Medieval Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman (Ramban)
(1194-c.1270 CE) comments that this passage
alludes to the later re-dedication of the Temple
during the time of the Maccabees.
  • Ramban suggests that there is a commandment in
the Torah to celebrate the the inauguration of
the Tabernacle, or the renewing of the Altar as
at Chanukah by bringing special offerings as
the leaders of the tribes did (last Torah
    portion).

8
The Age of Service
  • Bamidbar 823-26 (ISR) And ????  spoke to Mosheh,
saying, 24 This applies to the Lewites From
twenty-five years old and above let him come into
active service in the service of the Tent of
Meeting, 25 and at the age of fifty years they
retire from active service of the service, and
serve no more, 26 but they shall attend with
their brothers in the Tent of Meeting, to guard
the duty, but shall do no service. Thus you shall
do to the Lewites regarding their duties.
  • From 25 50 is the age of service for a Levite.
  • What about age 30? Did we not read in the last
portion that the age of Levitical service was
from the ages of 30 50?

9
The Age of Service
  • Bamidbar 446-48 (ISR) 46 All the registered ones
of the Lewites, whom Mosheh and Aharon and the
leaders of Yisrael registered, by their clans
    and by their fathers houses,
  • from thirty years old and above, even to
fifty years old, all who came to do the work of
service and the work of bearing burdens in the
Tent of Meeting, 48 their registered ones were
eight thousand five hundred and eighty.
  • And what about this? David lowered the age to
    twenty-years old! (Next Slide)
  • 1Ch 2324-28 These were the sons of Lewi by their
fathers houses, the heads of the fathers houses
as they were counted head by head by the number
of their names, who did the work for the service
of the House of ????, from the age of twenty
    years and above.
  • 1Ch 2325 For Dawid_ said, ????  Elohim of
Yisrael has given rest to His people, and He
    dwells in Yerushalayim forever,
  • 1Ch 2326 and also of the Lewites, They shall no
longer bear the Dwelling Place, or any of the
    vessels for its service.
  • 1Ch 2327 For by the last words of Dawid_ the
Lewites were numbered from twenty years old and
    above,
  • 1Ch 2328 because their duty was to help the sons
of Aharon in the service of the House of ????, in
the courtyards and in the rooms, in the cleansing
of all that was set-apart, and the work of the
service of the House of Elohim,

10
The Age of Service
  • 1Chronicles 2324-28 (ISR) These were the sons of
Lewi by their fathers houses, the heads of the
fathers houses as they were counted head by head
by the number of their names, who did the work
for the service of the House of ????, from the
age of twenty years and above. 25 For Dawid_
said, ????  Elohim of Yisrael has given rest to
His people, and He dwells in Yerushalayim
forever, 26 and also of the Lewites, They shall
no longer bear the Dwelling Place, or any of the
vessels for its service. 27 For by the last
words of Dawid_ the Lewites were numbered from
twenty years old and above, 28 because their duty
was to help the sons of Aharon in the service of
the House of ????, in the courtyards and in the

Pesach in the Wilderness
  • Bamidbar 91-5 (ISR) And ????  spoke to Mosheh
in the Wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of
the second year after they had come out of the
land of Mitsrayim, saying, 2 Now, let the
children of Yisrael perform the Passover at its
appointed time. 3 On the fourteenth day of this
month, between the evenings, perform it at its
appointed time. According to all its laws and
right-rulings you perform it. 4 And Mosheh spoke
to the children of Yisrael to perform the
Passover. 5 So they performed the Passover on the
fourteenth day of the first month, between the
evenings, in the Wilderness of Sinai. According
to all that ????  commanded Mosheh, so the
    children of Yisrael did.

13
Pesach in the Wilderness
  • Bamidbar 9 is out of chronological order. Pesach
is in the first month, but Bamidbar starts in the
    second month.
  • Bamidbar 11 (ISR) And ????  spoke to Mosheh in
the Wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting,
on the first day of the second month, in the
second year after they had come out of the land
of Mitsrayim, saying, And ????  spoke to Mosheh
in the Wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of
the second year after they had come out of the
    land of Mitsrayim, saying.
  • but it does line up with Second Passover
    (next slide).

14
Pesach in the Wilderness
  • Bamidbar 910-11 (ISR) Num 910 Speak to the
children of Yisrael, saying, When any male of
you or your generations is unclean for a being,
or is far away on a journey, he shall still
perform the Passover of ????. 11 On the
fourteenth day of the second month, between the
evenings, they perform it with unleavened bread
and bitter herbs they eat it.
  • Scripture does not record any other Passover
celebration by Israel while in the Wilderness.
    Perhaps this is linked to
  • Joshua 57 (NASB) Their children whom He raised
up in their place, Joshua circumcised for they
were uncircumcised, because they had not
    circumcised them along the way.

Calls of the Trumpet(s)
17
Bamidbar 10 1 - 10
Bamidbar/Numbers 10 1-5 (ISR) And YHWH spoke to
Mosheh, saying, 2 Make two silver trumpets for
yourself, make them of beaten work. And you shall
use them for calling the congregation and for
breaking camp. 3 And when they blow both of
them, all the congregation shall meet before you
at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 4And if they
blow one, then the leaders, the heads of the
thousands of Yisrael, shall gather to you. 5
And when you blow a shout, the camps that lie on
the east side shall depart.
18
Bamidbar 10 1 - 10
Bamidbar/Numbers 10 6-10 (ISR) 6 And when you
blow a shout the second time, then the camps that
lie on the south side shall depart they blow a
shout for them to depart.7 And when the assembly
is to be assembled, you blow, but do not shout. 8
And the sons of Aharon, the priests, blow with
the trumpets. And it shall be to you for a law
forever throughout your generations. 9 And when
you go into battle in your land against the enemy
that distresses you, then you shall shout with
the trumpets, and you shall be remembered before
YHWH your Elohim, and you shall be saved from
your enemies. 10 And in the day of your gladness,
and in your appointed times, and at the beginning
of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over
your burnt offerings and over your peace
offerings. And they shall be a remembrance for
you before your Elohim. I am YHWH your Elohim.
19
Bamidbar/Numbers 10 5 10 Useful Explanations
Bamidbar/Numbers 10 5- 10 (Judaica Press
Complete Tanach). 5. When you blow a teruah a
series of short blasts, the camps which are
encamped to the east shall travel. 6. When you
blow a second teruah, the camps encamped to the
south shall travel they shall blow a teruah for
traveling. 7. But when assembling the
congregation, you shall blow a tekiah long
blast but not a teruah. 8. The descendants of
Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets this
shall be an eternal statute for your
generations. 9. If you go to war in your land
against an adversary that oppresses you, you
shall blow a teruah with the trumpets and be
remembered before the Lord your God, and thus be
saved from your enemies. 10. On the days of your
rejoicing, on your festivals and on your new-moon
celebrations, you shall blow on the trumpets for
your ascent-offerings and your peace sacrifices,
and it shall be a remembrance before your God I
am the Lord your God.
20
When you Tekiah a Teruah
Bamidbar 10 5 When you blow a teruah a series
of short blasts Rashi comments The signal for
the camps to travel was a tekiah, a teruah and a
tekiah. The Sifrei derives this from redundant
verses. h'_WrT. T,Þ.qt.W Uteqatem
teruah Waynes Targum And when yall tekiah a
teruah The Sifrei is a a collection of
interpretations of Bamidbar probably compiled
around 200 CE.
21
But When Assembling the Congregation
Bamidbar 10 7 But when assembling the
congregation Rashi comments I might think that
just as with the departure of the camps he
blows a tekiah, teruah, tekiah, so when summoning
the congregation he blows a tekiah, teruah,
tekiah, and now there would be no difference
between the signal for summoning the
congregation and the signal for initiating the
departure of the camps. Scripture therefore
teaches, But when assembling the congregation
indicating that no teruah is blown to summon the
congregation, and the same applies for
convening the leaders. So there is a signal for
all three Summoning the congregation was with
two, and convening the princes with one and
neither of them included a teruah. Initiating the
camps departure was with both-with a teruah and a
tekiah.
22
But When Assembling the Congregation
Bamidbar 10 7 But when assembling the
congregation lh'_Q'h-ta, lyhiÞq.hb.W Uvhaqhiyl
et-Haqahal Waynes Targum And in the qahaling
Alef-Tav of the Qahal The Alef-Tav, the first
and the last, is in the midst of the Qahal of
Yisrael. Qahal is translated as ekklesia in
Greek. Recall that Yeshua said For where two
or three are gathered together in My Name, there
I am in their midst. (Matt 1820, ISR)
23
The Camp Moves Out
24
Thus they departed
  • Bamidbar/Numbers 10 13 (ISR) Thus they departed
the first time, according to the command of YHWH
by the hand of Mosheh. 14 And the banner of the
camp of the children of Yehudah departed first
according to their divisions. And over their army
    was Nachshon, son of Amminadad.

Where are the Priests?
Bamidbar/Numbers 10 35 And it came to be,
whenever the ark set out, that Mosheh said, Rise
up, O YHWH! And let Your enemies be scattered,
and let those who hate You flee before You. 36
And when it rested, he said, Return, O YHWH, to
the countless thousands of Yisrael. The Ark
seems to be in the lead, and with it, the sons of
Aaron.
28
The Cross in the Wilderness?
The twelve tribes were arranged in this fashion
(the length of the arms is proportional to the
size of the camps)
29
The Cross in the Wilderness?
There is a teaching that Israel walking through
the Wilderness was like a big cross
sweeping through the land.
While the Paleo-Hebrew letter Tav might work
(YHWHs mark of protection, Ezekiel 9) this
doesnt line up with the march order, and while
it sounds like some great theology, it seems (to
me) more like Constantines vision than the
instructions to Yisrael.
30
The Cross in the Wilderness?
If they kept their cross formation but moved in
the order the Scripture teaches, they would have
looked more like this.
Direction of Travel
Of course, no army ever conducts a cross country
march in a line formation as depicted by Reuben
Co (South) and Dan Co (North)

The Inverted Nuns
33
Inverted Nuns
We have already looked once at Bamidbar 10 35-36
to see where the priests were. Now lets look at
it again
  • There are two letters in the Hebrew text that are
not translated by or even footnoted into most
English translations. There are two inverted
Hebrew letter nuns Letter N in Hebrew that
set apart verses Bamidbar 10 35 and 36 as if
ther were parenthesis. They are the letters that
stand apart from the rest of the text above.

34
The Inverted Nuns
What is the meaning of the inverted nuns?
There are several teachings on this. Here are
some of them In the Torah parchment this
section is preceded and followed by a reversed
nun... because it ranks as a book by itself"
(Talmud Bavli, Shabbat 116a). These two verses
are enclosed in inverted "Nuns" to indicate
either that they are not here in their original
place (Talmud) or that they are taken from
another source (possibly from "the Book of the
Wars of the YHWH, see Bamidbar 2114) and form a
distinct section, scroll, or even "book" of the
Torah. Some of the Rabbis held that the Book of
Numbers consisted of three sections...and
accordingly, they counted a total of seven books
of the Torah. Thus it is the Torah that is the
seven pillars of wisdom (Proverbs 9 1)
35
The Inverted Nuns
Teachings on the inverted nuns, continued The
book of Bamidbar is to be divided into three
books Book One Chapters 1 10. The children
of Israel prepare to enter the Land. Book Two
Chapter 1035-36. The IDEAL journey what could
have been had they not sinned against Yah
believing the bad report of the 10 spies. Book
Three Chapters 11-36. The ACTUAL journey of 40
years in which neither Aaron, Moshe nor anyone
over 20 except Joshua and Caleb was allowed to
enter the Land.
36
The Inverted Nuns
Teachings on the inverted nuns, continued The
letter nun means life (the quickening of life).
The letter pictures a fish swimming away quickly.
But a letter drawn backwards, what does that
mean? It is the quickening of life from the dead.
That which was dead has come alive. It is sign
for resurrection. Verse 35 describes the
resurrection of the Messiah. This is when Yeshua
gained victory over his enemies. As a result,
they have been scattered and must flee from His
presence. He has gained victory over death. Verse
36 describes our resurrection which happens at
the Lords return to Israel. The myriads of
Israels family is the flock of Jacob, the
redeemed of Jacob. The Inverted Nuns
illustrate the two great resurrections, first for
the Messiah, and then for us at His return.
(Monte Judah, Yavoh, July 2004)

Bamidbar 11
38
The Complainers
Bamidbar/Numbers 11 1-5 (ISR) 1 And it came to
be, when the people were as complainers, it was
evil in the ears of ????. And ????  heard it, and
His displeasure burned. And the fire of ????
burned among them, and consumed those in the
outskirts of the camp. 2 And the people cried out
to Mosheh, and Mosheh prayed to ????, and the
fire died down. 3 Then he called the name of the
place Tab_erah, because the fire of ????  had
burned among them. 4 And the mixed multitude who
were in their midst lusted greatly, so the
children of Yisrael also wept again and said,
Who is giving us meat to eat? 5 We remember the
fish which we ate without cost in Mitsrayim, the
cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the
onions, and the garlic, 6 but now our throat is
dried up. There is naught to look at but this
manna!
39
The Graves of LustThe End of the Mixed Multitude?
Bamidbar/Numbers 11 30-34 (ISR) 30 And Mosheh
returned to the camp, both he and the elders of
Yisrael. 31 And a wind went forth from ????, and
it brought quail from the sea and let them fall
beside the camp, about a days journey on this
side and about a days journey on the other side,
all around the camp, and about two cubits above
the surface of the ground. 32 And the people were
up all that day, and all that night, and all the
next day, and gathered the quail. He who has
least gathered ten h?omers. And they spread them
out for themselves all around the camp. 33 The
meat was still between their teeth, before it was
chewed, and the wrath of ????  burned against the
people, and ????  smote the people with an
exceeding great plague. 34 Then he called the
name of that place Qib_roth Hattaawah, because
there they buried the people who had lusted.
40
Ruach on Moshe and the 70
Bamidbar 1116 (ISR) Then ????  said to Mosheh,
Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of
Yisrael, whom you know to be the elders of the
people and officers over them. And bring them to
the Tent of Meeting, and let them stand there
with you Bamidbar/Numbers 11 24-25 (ISR) 24 And
Mosheh went out and spoke to the people the words
of ????, and he gathered the seventy men of the
elders of the people and placed them around the
Tent. 25 And ????  came down in the cloud, and
spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was
upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy
elders. And it came to be, when the Spirit rested
upon them, that they prophesied, but did not
continue. Aramaic Targum Onkelos, giving the
ancient understanding, renders and it came to
pass that when the Spirit of prophecy rested upon
them they prophesied, and ceased not.
41
Bamidbar 12
42
Miryam and Aharon vs Moshe
Bamidbar/Numbers 12 1-5 (ISR) 1 Now Miryam and
Aharon spoke against Mosheh because of the
Kushite woman whom he had taken, for he had taken
a Kushite woman. 2 And they said, Has ????
spoken only through Mosheh? Has He not also
spoken through us? And ????  heard it. 3 And the
man Mosheh was very humble, more than all men who
were on the face of the earth. 4 And suddenly
????  said to Mosheh, and Aharon, and Miryam,
You three, come out to the Tent of Meeting! So
the three came out. 5 And ????  came down in the
column of cloud and stood in the door of the
Tent, and called Aharon and Miryam. And they both
went forward.
43
Miryam and Aharon vs Moshe
Bamidbar/Numbers 12 6-10 (ISR) 6 And He said,
Hear now My words If your prophet is of ????, I
make Myself known to him in a vision, and I speak
to him in a dream. 7 Not so with My servant
Mosheh, he is trustworthy in all My house. 8 I
speak with him mouth to mouth, and plainly, and
not in riddles. And he sees the form of ????. So
why were you not afraid to speak against My
servant Mosheh? 9 And the displeasure of ????
burned against them, and He left. 10 And the
cloud turned away from above the Tent, and look
Miryam was leprous, as white as snow! And Aharon
turned toward Miryam, and look a leper!
From this we see that tzaraat, often translated
as leprosy, is spriritually rooted in
complaining and jealosy.
44
Messiah, Moshe and the House
Bamidbar/Numbers 12 7 (ISR) 7 Not so with My
servant Mosheh, he is trustworthy in all My
house.
Hebrews 31-6 (Peshitta) Therefore, my set-apart
brothers, who are called with a calling that is
from heaven, consider this apostle and high
priest of our confession, Yeshua Messiah, 2 who
was faithful to him who made him, as was Moshe
with all his house. 3 For the glory of this
man is much greater than that of Moshe, just as
the honor of the builder of the house is much
greater than that of his building. 4 For every
house is built by someone, but he who builds all
is Eloha. 5 And Moshe, as a servant, was
faithful in all his house, for a witness of those
things that were going to be, that were
spoken by way of him. 6 Now Messiah, as the Son,
is over his house. And we are his house, if we
hold fast the boldness and the boasting of his
hope to the end.
