Interventions
  • One of our goals this year was to reduce student
    tardies.
  • Interventions that we have tried include
  • One Minute Music Warnings
  • Teachers in the halls during passing time.
  • Principals 200 Club coupons
  • Cash Rewards
  • No Tardy Parties
  • Lunch Detention
  • After school Detention
  • TNT Tardies Not Tolerated

5
Rationale
  • Data for the last two years, clearly shows that
tardies were our biggest referral area.
  • Tardies unnecessarily absorb teacher
administrative time and disrupt the classroom
    environment.

6
Data Indicators
Tardies for 1st 2 years
7
Trends and changes in data indicators after
intervention
  • The first 2 years we didnt see any improvement.
In fact our 2nd year was worse than the first for
    much of the year.
  • In April of last year we started a tardy policy
    called TNT.
  • We have seen dramatic improvements since using
    this policy.

8
Implementation
  • We discussed with the faculty staff our
    concerns with tardies.
  • We presented some options for things to try.
  • Our attendance secretaries came up with the Idea
for the TNT (Tardies Not Tolerated) program.
  • The faculty was trained on how the program would
    work.

9
Implementation
  • Students received training about tardy
    expectations.
  • Motivators were offered consistently to both
    students and staff.
  • We are still using many of the interventions
    mentioned earlier.
  • The biggest improvement has come from the TNT
    program. Tardies Not Tolerated

10
Most Recent Data
Tardies for all 3 years
11
  • TNT
  • Tardies Not Tolerated!
  • TNT is a tardy policy we are using at South
Jordan Middle School. Due to an overwhelming
amount of tardiness, we have implemented a tardy
policy to cut down on the disruptions and
    disorder in the classrooms.
  • This policy includes the following actions

12
TNT Forms
  • There are different forms that are used as a
notice to students that they have reached certain
levels and the type of consequence that goes with
    it.
  • The students are also assigned to write pages of
    I Will Not Be Tardy.

  • No Tardy Party Celebration quarterly
  • 1st Quarter - 758 students attended
  • 2nd Quarter - 605 students attended
  • 3rd Quarter - 740 students attended

19
Summary
  • We have found that the things we are doing are
having a positive effect on our students.
  • The majority of the ODRs are dealing with
excessive tardies and confiscated items such as
    Ipods, phones, etc.(80)
  • We feel that the School-wide Rules, School Wide
Citizenship, Principals 200 Club, Student of the
Day, Student of the Month and TNT have been great
    preventative measures for serious offenses.
