A Webquest about Music

INTRODUCTION
  • The purpose of this webquest is to educate middle
    school and high school students in the general
    field of music.
  • Students will learn the basics of reading music
  • Students will gain a greater knowledge in music
    history by studying great figures such as Mozart
    or Bach.

The BIG Question
  • Music is an aspect of our everyday lives. We go
    shopping and music is playing through every
    store, we go to the dentist and soothing music is
    there to relax us. But do we really pay much
    attention to this music? Are we degrading this
    art form by not giving our full attention to the
    aesthetic purpose of a song? What do you think
    Mozart or Bach would say to the way we use music
    today?

Assignment
  • On YOUR OWN, be able to recall musical terms and
    know where the different notes are placed on the
    staff and review the following worksheet.
  • Worksheet
  • Then in your assigned groups research the
    assigned composer, either Mozart or Bach.
    Research their early life (when/where they were
    born), what made them start their music career,
    and a few of their good works. After the
    research is finished you and your group will be
    giving a short presentation on your composer to
    the rest of the class.

PROCESS
  • 1st- Individually do the worksheet that is
    provided for you. You will be asked to turn that
    in at a later time.
  • 2nd- As you individually do your research, check
    out these websites on both Bach and Mozart.

    click on the hyperlink while researching to
    listen to some of his famous works. Once youve
    clicked on the hyperlink, pick any one of his
    violin concertos to listen to.

    illustration and read through and play samples
    of music to get a feel for what his compositions

    information that each of you have found.
  • 4th- Then as a group put all of your information
    together in a brief presentation and be ready to
    present it to the class.
  • 5th-Individually go to the Big Question and
    write a 1 page response, double spaced. There is
    no right or wrong answer, its your opinion!

  • Students should be able to understand the basic
    concepts of music.
  • Mozarts and Bachs lives and compositions should
    be well understood.
  • Students should be able to read a simple score of
    music and be able to repeat rhythms.
