    whose wife had just died
  • Admetus didnt tell him his wife was dead
  • Hercules gets really drunk, and a servant tells
    him Admetus wife is dead
  • Hercules feels bad cause he got drunk, decides to
    bring Admetus wife back from the dead
  • Hercules wrestles Death, wins, and makes him give
    back Admetus wife

  • There is no other story about Hercules which
    shows so clearly his character as the Greeks saw
    it his blundering stupidity his inability to
    stay sober in a house where someone had died his
    quick penitence and desire to make up for what he
    did, no matter the cost and his perfect
    confidence that not even Death himself was his
    match.

Beginning of the End

  • Deianira (his wife) believed she had a love
    potion to use on him if this ever happened
  • Soaks a cloak in the potion and sends it to
    Hercules

  • Deianira kills herself when she hears what the
    potion did to Hercules
  • Hercules orders his servants to build him a
    funeral pyre
  • On Olympus he is reconciled with Hera, marries
    Heras daughter Hebe, and lives happily ever after
