Title: L'O' Explore a story from the bible and discuss its meaning'

1
L.O. Explore a story from the bible and discuss
its meaning. Identify things we are thankful for.
2
Learning outcomes
  • To be thankful for what we have.
  • To use sacred text to learn about God.

3
Overview
  • Share with the children that it is World Leprosy
Week from 26 to the 30 of January. This year The
Leprosy Mission is focusing on a project in
Chanchaga, a rural village in Nigeria. In RE we
are going to look at one person in particular who
is affected by leprosy and see if we can find out
Gods attitude towards people with leprosy.

4
Amina
  • What can you see in the picture?
  • What stands out to you about the picture?
  • What do you think Amina is thinking?
  • What would you like to ask Amina?

5
Arminas story
  • Amina is 65 years old and first noticed signs of
leprosy 35 years ago. It started with patches
all over her back and then her hand.
  • Years later, she came to Okegbala hospital for
help. The hospital stopped the leprosy from
getting worse. However, Amina still has very bad
hands and feet. This makes life very hard for
her, and daily tasks are very dangerous.

6
  • How does hearing her story make you feel?

7
Ten Healed of Leprosy
Luke Chapter 17 Verses 11 to 17
  • Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. As he was
going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met
him. They stood at a distance and called out in a
loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!"
When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves
to the priests." And as they went, they were
    healed.
  • One of them, when he saw he was healed, came
back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw
himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. Jesus
asked, "Were not all ten healed? Where are the
other nine? Then he said to him, "Rise and go
your faith has made you well."

8
Activity one
  • What do they ask him to do?
  • How does he respond?
  • Does this reveal his heart for people with
    leprosy?
  • Do you think Jesus would be nice to other people?
  • Does anyone come back and say thank you?
  • What do you think the meaning of the story is?

9
Being more thankful
  • What have you complained about today?
  • Could we be more thankful?

10
Activity two
  • Draw around your hand and write inside all the
    things you are thankful for.

11
