Mission
  • The purpose of the Master of Social Work
    program is to achieve the aims of the profession
    of social work by educating students for
    knowledgeable and competent practice with diverse
    populations. Originating in a commitment to
    increasing social and economic justice for
    underrepresented and oppressed groups, the MSW
    Program prepares professional social workers for
    advanced practice with individuals and families
    within the context of their communities. Special
    attention is paid to the multicultural
    environment, in particular to native Hawaiian,
    and other Pacific Islander and Asian cultures of
    our communities, state, and the Pacific region.

General Degree Requirements
  • You must complete within 4 years
  • A minimum of 57 credits, all letter graded,
    including
  • Foundation requirements.
  • Concentration requirements.
  • 4 semesters of Practicum.
  • Research requirements (select one).
  • One semester course (SW 741)
  • Two-semester research project (SW 743 and SW 744)
  • One-semester research project (SW 746)
  • Seminar requirement (SW 718).
  • Three electives.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 gpa.

Practicum
  • Most agencies operate during the weekdays,
    daytimes
  • Therefore, you must have a flexible schedule that
    will allow you to attend practicum during the
    daytime on weekdays, 2 days/week
  • Students are required to attend
    scheduled practicum orientations and meetings
    while participating in practicum

Admissions Criteria
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited US college
    or university or its equivalent from a recognized
    foreign institution of higher learning.
  • Minimum cumulative gpa of 3.0 (or its equivalent)
    in undergraduate work completed or in
    post-baccalaureate work if 12 or more semester
    credit hours have been completed.
  • Background in liberal arts that includes the
    following areas of study logic/analytical
    thinking, behavioral science, social science,
    culture, and biological science emphasizing human
    biological content.
  • Personal qualifications that indicate potential
    for successful graduate social work education and
    professional practice.
