The Resume
  • Keep It Short Simple (KISS).
  • Limit your resume to one page.
  • Keep sentences brief, under 12 words.
  • Do not write in paragraphs.
  • Use simple, everyday language.

  • Be specific, give examples.
  • Stress achievements.
  • Be positive and enthusiastic.
  • Be honest, dont exaggerate.
  • Dont list personal references.

  • Dont mention salary or wages.
  • Use standard 8.5 by 11 paper.
  • Keep a one-inch margin on all four sides of the
    page.
  • Avoid fancy type such as outline, shadow, script,
    or other difficult-to-read styles.
  • Double-space between sections.

  • Bold, Underline, or CAPITALIZE section headings
    for emphasis.
  • Single space within sections.
  • Use bullet dots (?) or an asterisk () at the
    beginning of each entry to separate one item from
    another and guide the readers eye.
  • Proofread for spelling and grammar.

    information.
  • Replace the XXs in the dates with the complete
    year.

  • When printing your Resume
  • use good quality paper.
  • use white, ivory, or cream color paper
  • use a good printer (laser is best) without toner
    problems.
