All About Me
  • Its my fifth year at Truman, and my ninth year
    in education!
  • I am married, and I have two children. Rylee is
    4, and Brady is 1 ½ .
  • I have an eight year old Black Lab named Chloe.
  • I love to read, scrapbook, and travel!

Guided Reading
  • Small-group reading instruction based on students
    needs. (Flexible Grouping!)
  • Books used in groups are based on students
    reading level.
  • A CSR Reading teacher will be in the room during
    this time, and will be working with two groups
    while I meet with two groups.
  • Other students will be independently reading and
    working on independent reading activities.

  • Read for 45 min. by the end of the year
  • Weekly Reading calendars 20 min. per night

Word Study/Word Work
  • A weekly lesson on a spelling pattern and/or
    strategy 7 day rotation
  • Students select words from a class generated
    list, as well as words from their writing, that
    they are struggling with.
  • Spelling activities daily.
  • Test always after the Making Connections
    activity
  • Focus on independent word-solving

Writers Workshop
  • Daily/weekly minilesson and independent writing
    with student-teacher conferences.
  • Work on personal narratives, letters, poetry,
    persuasive writing, and nonfiction writing
    Focus on Cap. and Punc.
  • Emphasis on the writing process
  • Students will publish some of their work (books,
    poems, letters, etc.)

Math
  • Hands-on activities with manipulatives
  • Math journal thinking and writing about Math
  • 6 Math books/short chapters
  • Challenge work usually daily
  • Family Involvement Letters and activities with
    each chapter

Science/Social Studies
  • We will spend 3 weeks on Social Studies, and
    will then switch and spend 3 weeks on Science.
  • Science hands-on activities living and
    nonliving, matter, animals, magnets, energy,
    rocks
  • Social Studies second year of new curriculum
    Community, The world/Geography, Ways of
    Living/Culture, Economics, Americas Past,
    Americas Government

Take-home Folder
  • The folder must come with your child/children to
    school every day.
  • Parents, please look through the folder and take
    out any papers in the Please Remove side and
    sign any papers in the Please Return side.

  • All notes will be sent home on Truman Tiger
    Tuesdays!!!

  • Zoo Science Buddy Field Trip
  • More to be announced as scheduled

Homework
  • Read, read, and read some more at least 20
    minutes per night!!! A Reading Club sheet will
    be sent home every week. It needs to be
    completed and returned the following week.
  • Study Word Study words.
  • Practice Math facts!!!
  • Additional homework will be sent usually math

Behavior Expectations
  • As a class we will develop expectations for our
    year together!
  • If a student chooses not to follow an agreed upon
    expectation, a fair consequence will be given.
  • Consequences are handled on an individual basis
    between student and teacher.

  • A weekly report will be sent home on Fridays,
    need to be returned on Mondays.

Have You Filled A Bucket Today?
  • We will use this book to guide our behavior, and
    help us to follow the character traits, as we
    show that we can be bucket fillers not bucket
    dippers.

Mystery Reader
  • Someone special to each child is welcome to come
    visit our class, and share a book with them.
  • Thursdays at 1100, beginning in October.
  • Please sign up tonight, or send back the sheet
    with open dates that was sent home on Aug. 21st.
  • Reminder notes will be sent home the week before
    the Mystery Reader visits.
  • SHHH! It is a surprise to the students on who is
    coming each Thursday!

  • Wednesday Bring a letter from home (sealed) to
    be read to you and your friends
  • Thursday Lunch Buddy eat with the teacher
