    (2007) who are alive and passionate in their
    ministries activities

    working together

    and common characteristics

  • Create an organizational structure comprised of
    lay leaders, clergy and staff that ensure genuine
    participation in the management and leadership of
    the parish
  • Our lay/clergy partnership will
  • Empower those who do the work by decision making
    at the lowest possible levels of the parish
  • Incorporate multi cultural managerial and
    leadership competencies of dedicated lay persons
  • Implement rigorous forms of performance
    measurement
  • Provide financial stewardship transparency to all
  • Share decision making and planning thru consensus
  • Provide continuity training to assure leadership
    development and managerial succession
  • This affects attitudes, decisionmaking,
    empowerment

St Francis Parish Plan Goals
  • Community process built the plan in 2004
  • Parish renewed its mission, vision, values,
    strategies, and directions
  • Defined strategies and goals which help set
    measurable goals
  • Communities are asked to define detailed goals
    measurables
  • Rolled out a New Organizational Structure
  • Updated the Plan in 2006 to cover 2006-2011

  • Chose a subset to focus actions

Some Lessons Learned
  • We had to build a Planning and Goal Setting
    Culture that will always need attention
  • It takes time, but dont give up
  • Training is needed - leaders must commit to make
    it happen
  • Turnover affects the culture make it for the
    better!
  • Work hard with the Diocese to Plan together
  • Many things affect the parish is BIG ways
  • Capital Campaigns
  • Taxes, interest rates, special collections
    programs
  • Major Mantainence
  • Its a two way street set the right example
    with things you can control and make assumptions
    (that can be measured)
  • Learn from the past invent the future for your
    parish we BELIEVE and have FAITH that God wants
    us to
  • Enjoy the fruits of your labors it motivates
    the entire parish
  • Communicate more than you think you need to

Case Study Spirituality Program
  • 2-3 years ago we added an initiative to deepen
    the lives of our parishners and the vulnerable
  • Initiatives are identified by the Pastor,
    council, communities each year
  • Began very small, prototyped a few ministries,
    little budget
  • Today have a set of Ministries Programs that
    support the entire parish and beyond
  • Added to parish goals reported each month on
    growth
  • Coached leaders and built ministry teams now
    have a full Pastoral Commission
  • Touch peoples hearts
