• Although Townshend Acts had been dropped
  Parliament passed the Tea Act
• This allowed East India Company to sell tea
  directly to colonists instead of going through
  colonial merchants
• East India Co. could sell tea cheaper
• Colonists thought this was unfair and would drive
  colonial merchants out of business
